5 things you missed at the Prada show In the Men's Fw26 collection, the devil is in the details
Not all basics come to do harm, especially when it comes to Prada. This weekend the brand presented its Men’s FW26 at Milan Fashion Week, a simple collection made intriguing by looks loaded with hidden details. One of these, for example, was the purple sneaker laces, subverted by being tied over a pair of heavy black leather boots. While some pieces such as the extremely tight, crumpled wool coats were noteworthy, what left the strongest impression in this collection was the styling rather than the design. An observation that, these days, says a lot about the state of innovation in the fashion industry.
So here are five details you may not have noticed from Prada’s show – and that you can easily replicate at home.
Dirty, worn shirts
You know when you’re rummaging through a second-hand market and come across a visibly damaged garment, left folded in a dusty basement for so long that it has developed entirely new creases? This is exactly the detail Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons wanted to play with for Men’s FW26. Encrusted, singed, dirty and wrinkled shirts peeked out from under coats, decorated with colorful cufflinks that did absolutely nothing to hide their flaws.
So many wallets
There are some dadcore details that fashion had yet to discover, such as the wallet carelessly shoved into a pocket and sticking out of the trousers, at risk of falling or being stolen. This season Prada reinterpreted the look – if it can even be called that – in its own way, slipping long wallets into trouser pockets or handing a handful of these small pouches to the models.
Mini rain capes
Given the unpredictable weather of the colder seasons, Prada wanted to think of a way to protect wool coats: not an umbrella, not a waterproof jacket, but rather a mini waterproof cape to rest on the shoulders like a sweater over a polo shirt. In the brightest and most unexpected colors of the collection, such as turquoise green, magenta, or banana yellow. Adding a colorful, unexpected accessory to an extremely basic look is perhaps the most Prada-esque styling trick in the collection.
Camouflage hats
For FW26, Prada said there is nothing chicer than a wool hat matched to the coat or jacket and fastened at the back, blending in with the rest of the look. Made from the same materials as the outerwear, from gray wool to colorful technical fabric, postman and fisherman hats took on chameleon-like qualities.
Cufflinks (but only on one sleeve)
In stone, metal, or beads: the cufflinks at the Prada show were unique, not only aesthetically but numerically as well. Fastened on just one sleeve, clearly visible to playfully distract from the dirty shirt cuffs, the cufflinks were used on only one side like a decorative brooch - a detail that we are certain will be picked up by many Prada fans in the months to come.
