Salomon brings the race back to Milan The September 2nd conference, between what remains of the Winter Games and an app for women to run alone safely

Salomon Running Milano returns on Sunday, September 20 for its sixteenth edition, bringing running back to a Milan far from its grand boulevards and asphalt surfaces. Four routes are planned: one competitive race of 20 km and three non-competitive runs of 19.9, 15, and 10 km, starting and finishing on the service road of Via Boezio. The course runs from Castello Sforzesco to Vigorelli, passing through Portello, Monte Stella, and CityLife, including the shopping district.

The logistics will be split between Piazza Burri and Tre Torri. The former will serve as the hub for services for runners before the start and at the finish, while the latter will host the commercial village, featuring stands related to running, prevention, and health. The medal presented at the end of the race will be made exclusively from recycled materials, while the technical shirt can be personalised at the Gruppo San Donato space.

The event is organised by Team OTC, with the approval of the FIDAL Lombardia Regional Committee and under the patronage of the City of Milan. This year it also builds on the legacy of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, in which Salomon played a leading role. One of the goals is indeed to carry that experience forward, bringing sport back into the everyday life of the city.

The event was presented on September 2 at the City Hall offices, where Salomon announced another significant new initiative: ChangeToRun, an application developed by the Salomon Foundation together with the association ChangeTheGame, to address the issue of safety for women running alone in urban spaces.

The app, which will be available free of charge in the coming months on major platforms, will work through community reports, inviting users to flag risky situations and locations where runners feel less safe, effectively building a map. The need for it was made clear by figures from a questionnaire developed by Sapienza University of Rome and distributed throughout the year at Italy's most important marathons: 58.7% of respondents reported having been harassed while running outdoors, and 70% had changed their habits in order to feel safer.

The brand also released the Sustainability report for the New Shapers Run, the ten-kilometre race it had scheduled to coincide with the Winter Games. The document measures the initiative's impact on the local area, on participants, and on the environment; the strongest results relate to the accessibility of the event and the decision to rely on local suppliers and resources. The full report can be found on the brand's website.

Registration for the Salomon Running remains open until September 17 on Endu, subject to early closure if race bibs sell out.
