For weeks social media had been fantasizing about the idea that Pope Leo XIV might meet Bad Bunny in Madrid. On one side the Pontiff, engaged in his apostolic journey to share the word of God; on the other the Puerto Rican artist, protagonist of one of the most anticipated tours of the season, the Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour. A coincidence meant that the schedules of the two stars overlapped right in the Spanish capital, which the Pope described as a «gran ciudad».

What could be defined as the meeting of the century did not arise from simple coincidence. Rather, it seemed almost part of a divine design. Bad Bunny, in fact, has often spoken about growing up in a deeply Catholic family and still considering himself a believer today, albeit not a practicing one. It was reportedly he who expressed the desire to meet the Pontiff during his stay in Spain.
A brief greeting and a few words exchanged before Leo XIV left the Bernabéu Stadium, where the meeting with the diocesan community took place yesterday afternoon in front of around 80,000 people. Also present at the event were some of the artist’s family members, now considered by many as the face of Puerto Rico, a role he has further consolidated thanks to his recent performance at the Halftime Show of the Super Bowl in the United States. Bad Bunny reportedly said he was «truly excited» to have had the opportunity to shake hands with the Pope.
Was it a divine sign?
The news, which immediately went viral, also fueled debate during the Pope’s 72 hours in Madrid. On one side Bad Bunny, who between Madrid and Barcelona drew over 600,000 spectators; on the other Leo XIV, capable of gathering more than 600,000 young people in a single evening during the vigil with Eucharistic Adoration in Plaza de Lima.
As reported by Vatican News, during the flight to Spain a journalist from the EFE agency asked the Pope whether young people were traveling to the country to see him or Bad Bunny, a question to which the Pontiff replied with disarming simplicity: «I think many will go to see Bad Bunny, but I also think there will be some who say they are here to see the Pope. And that is not little.» In short, who would have ever imagined that Bad Bunny was a fan of the Pope? And perhaps, who knows, that even the “Leo” might harbor a certain sympathy for the most famous “rabbit” from Puerto Rico.
