Rollover DJs celebrate cosmic disco with "Mr Johnny" The new track weaves together vintage references, exceptional musicians and a contemporary vision of clubbing

Live instruments, a warm groove and an instantly catchy chorus. These are the defining features of "Mr Johnny", the new single by the Rollover DJs, released on June 19. The track draws inspiration from Cosmic Disco, Disco Pop and Italo Disco, reinterpreting them in a contemporary key while still preserving the same energy that made these sounds timeless. The influences of '70s disco coexist with pop elements and a modern production, giving life to a track that manages to cross the boundaries between past and present without limiting itself to mere quotation. 

Inspired by the mysterious and iconic figure of Jonathan Pappolla —who also serves as the narrating voice within the track— the song seems built around an iconic, mysterious and elegant character. It is precisely for this reason, and thanks to a cinematic and ironic approach, that "Mr Johnny" allows us to imagine a character who stepped out of a New York club in 1979 only to find himself on today's dance floors, never losing his charm.

The Rollover DJs, the musical soul of Rollover Milano, have always been tied to the Milanese nightlife scene and to an idea of music that is free and capable of crossing genres and references, rejecting stagnation. This project, produced by the Rollover DJs together with Whodamanny and Lorenzo Morresi, also carries forward a series of collaborations that strengthen their connection to the Italian music scene: Saturnino on bass, Gianluca Petrella on brass and synths, accompanied by the vocals of Sandy Nuni.
