The Louvre Paradiso Cinema makes a grand return Silver screen classics take over the Cour Carrée

For its sixth edition, the Paradiso festival is once again setting up camp in the heart of the world's largest museum to offer film buffs a timeless experience. The program for this exceptional event features four entirely free evenings in the Louvre's majestic Cour Carrée, blending open-air screenings under the stars with exclusive Q&As with major directors.

A Prestigious Line-up and Star-Studded Guests

The kickoff will be given on Wednesday, July 1st by filmmaker Wes Anderson, who will personally present his multi-award-winning masterpiece, The Grand Budapest Hotel. The following day, Thursday, will make way for the luminous melancholy of The Worst Person in the World (originally titled Julie in 12 Chapters). This feature film, which earned Renate Reinsve the Best Actress award at Cannes as well as prestigious Oscar and César nominations, will be screened in the presence of its brilliant director, Joachim Trier.

The new wave of French cinema will also be in the spotlight. Audiences will have the chance to catch an avant-première of Histoires de la nuit, the mesmerizing third feature by Léa Mysius, fresh from the Cannes selection. While the film left the Croisette without the Palme d'Or, its star-studded cast - featuring Monica Bellucci, Hafsa Herzi, and Benoît Magimel - is sure to captivate many.

To wrap up this edition in style on Saturday, the audience will be swept away by Céline Sciamma's Portrait of a Lady on Fire. This feminist masterpiece left a definitive mark in 2019, walking away from Cannes with a haul of awards, including the Queer Palm and the Best Screenplay award.

The 2,000 spectators for this edition - 500 lucky winners per night - were selected via a fiercely contested online lottery.

For this handful of lucky winners, the festival has pulled out all the stops: alongside the giant screen, there will be plenty of options to refresh and refuel. Several food trucks and pop-up bars will line the main courtyard. Among them, the Limoncé Aperitivo corner will serve a revisited lemon Spritz. It’s a tangy twist that is bound to be a massive hit with the French, for whom the Spritz has definitively become THE ultimate summer cocktail.

By successfully marrying French historical heritage with the silver screen, the Louvre Paradiso festival asserts itself once more as the season's unmissable event. If you weren't lucky enough to snag the golden ticket this year, your best bet is to keep a close eye on social media for any last-minute cancellations... or simply gaze up at the stars from the banks of the Seine, hoping to catch a fleeting echo of the cinematic magic.
