Unicampania presents "SUPER TA[Y]LORING - Thinking About Youth" Conference, docufilm and fashion show on July 3 in Aversa to explore the future of Neapolitan tailoring
On July 3 in Aversa, SUPER TA(Y)LORING- Thinking About You will take place: a meeting dedicated to research, fashion culture and a fashion show, with the aim of exploring the possible evolutionary trajectories of Neapolitan tailoring. Tradition, design innovation, sustainability and attention to education are the pillars around which the initiative is structured. The event is promoted by the Bachelor’s Degree Course in Fashion Design and the Master’s Degree Course in Design for Innovation, both part of the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design of the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”.
Neapolitan tailoring is one of the most recognizable symbols of Made in Italy around the world; however, today it is called upon to face new challenges: the urgency of environmental sustainability, the fast pace of technological innovation, the transformation of consumption models and the emergence of new aesthetic languages. The event represents the culmination of a research journey carried out by students, who were invited to reflect on the role of Neapolitan tailoring and the possible trajectories it may follow in the future, starting from this awareness. The project encouraged students to reinterpret the codes of tradition through an approach that combines design culture, an experimental attitude and a contemporary outlook.
The day will begin at 6:00 PM at the Alfonso Gambardella Aula Magna, where a conference will be held focusing on education, fashion culture and the prospects of Made in Italy. During the meeting, the docufilm Grand Tour. Journey through the Academies of Arts and Crafts, produced by the National Chamber of Italian Fashion, will be screened: a journey through the places, skills and values that help build the identity of the national fashion system.
This will be followed by a debate offering an opportunity to explore the relationship between university, research and the production system, highlighting the strategic contribution of younger generations in defining the future of Italian fashion. Opening remarks will be delivered by Ornella Zerlenga, Director of the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design, and Roberto Liberti, President of the Degree Course in Fashion Design. Speakers will include Beatrice Rossaro, head of PR at the National Chamber of Italian Fashion, Alessandra Cirafici, coordinator of the National PhD Programme in Design for Made in Italy, Antonio De Matteis, CEO of Kiton, Aldo Toscano, national President of Federitaly Moda and Antonella Di Pietro, brand Manager of the Vision of Super project.
At 8:00 PM, the scene will move to the cloister of the Abbey of San Lorenzo ad Septimum in Aversa, where the project will take shape in the Fashion Show. At the heart of the show will be the collections created by the students: each one stems from the observation and reinterpretation of the codes of tailoring, translated into contemporary forms through experimentation with new materials, innovative silhouettes and original construction solutions.
The fashion show is an experience that allowed academic research to be translated into a concrete project, bringing creativity, artisanal production and innovation into dialogue. It also represents the final moment of a journey during which students had the opportunity to engage directly with the professional world, thanks to collaborations with partners and companies in the sector, including Vision of Super, Trama and Tramosa.
The event therefore represents an opportunity for discussion on the value of design culture and on fashion’s ability to interpret the transformations of the present. Through the contribution of students and the involvement of professionals, companies and institutions, the project reaffirms the role of Vanvitelli University as a space for experimentation and a meeting point between the academic world and the production system in the fashion sector.
