Intimacy Laid Bare: Fecal Matter’s New Spring-Summer Campaign Fecal Matter transforms Rue des Francs-Bourgeois into an intimate theater where the anonymity of the mask becomes the ultimate truth
Under Steven Raj’s lens, Hannah Rose becomes the muse of a collection that strips away appearances in the heart of the Marais. Between masquerade masks and revealed lace, the duo explores the boundary between public spectacle and the truth of the private self. Far from sanitized studios, Fecal Matter chose the effervescence of Rue des Francs-Bourgeois to anchor its new Spring-Summer campaign. In and around Dover Street Market Paris, the creative duo—with Hannah Rose in front of the lens and Steven Raj behind it—delivers a series of "no-frills," almost stolen shots. This "on-the-fly" aesthetic, captured amidst a crowd of indifferent or curious onlookers, heightens the radical contrast of their silhouettes. In the middle of Paris, Hannah Rose is no longer just a creator: she is a creature, an apparition whose strangeness sublimates the everyday.
This season rests on a floral and anatomical metaphor where the collection reveals itself layer by layer, petal by petal. The eye begins with the outer structure, such as a pink tailored suit with sharp shoulder pads and a shredded skirt, or a baggy denim set with generous volumes. Yet, the essential happens underneath. By seeking to show what lies beneath the armor of cotton and wool, the brand unveils intimate pieces, delicate undergarments, and corsets that reshape the body. It is an exploration of vulnerability, deconstructing the garment to find a beauty that is rawer, more fragile, and infinitely more personal.
The common thread of the collection is undoubtedly the most paradoxical accessory in their wardrobe: the loup (domino mask). A symbol of the world of performance, this mask allows for a protective anonymity while focusing all attention on a passionate red mouth, vibrant with life. In this vision, one wears a mask to better see oneself. It serves not to conceal, but to liberate, becoming the tool of a daily performance where one breaks free from the gaze of others to reconnect with their deepest identity.
For Steven Raj and Hannah Rose, this collection marks a pivotal milestone in the evolution of their label. What was once an aesthetic dialogue between two beings has become a life philosophy shared by a growing community, blending long-time followers with new converts to their radicality. The idea for this collection was born from a deep exploration of what beauty means to them, with the expression of Hannah’s individuality as the starting point. Today, their deeply personal and intimate identity can finally be shared through the pieces of this collection. By opening this singular dialogue to their community, they hope to help those around them feel beautiful in their own truth, however singular it may be.
