Where to eat: Chez Trâm 130

Located on Rue Saint-Maur since June 2024, Priscilla Trâm’s bistro continues to assert itself effortlessly in a neighbourhood where good restaurants compete for attention. The dining room remains human-sized, with its 25 seats and an open kitchen for the curious who enjoy taking a peek behind the scenes. The lighting is perfectly dimmed, accompanying a menu that continues its skilful blend of French tradition and Asian influences. We visited on a November evening, appetite wide open, without disappointment upon arrival. On the menu, every dish reflects a love for generous, straightforward plates, enhanced by a cascade of deeply crafted condiments and sauces. Our special mention goes to four dishes: the shallot tatin, the bone marrow with tartare, the yellow chicken thigh, and the stuffed cabbage with sticky rice. As for the wines, the selection curated by Lucas Nivaggioni and Arthur Malet exceeds a hundred references. No dogmatic line, but a focus on what is enjoyable to drink, natural or not, as long as it’s good! At the table, you feel at ease. The service is smooth, attentive and without excess. The plates have depth, and so do the portions. You leave satisfied, with prices in line with the neighbourhood and the level of the food.

To discover: Tilda Swinton: Ongoing

With Tilda Swinton: Ongoing, the British actress delivers a first book at the crossroads between an art book, a personal archive and a conversation notebook. Not quite an autobiography, not entirely an image book, but a hybrid object where she revisits her journey through cinema, fashion and contemporary art. Published this fall, the book retraces more than forty years of creation through a selection of unreleased documents, photograms, exchanges and collaborations that have shaped her path. It includes her early roles alongside Derek Jarman or Joanna Hogg, her cult films with Guadagnino, Jarmusch or Bong Joon Ho, but also lesser-known collaborations with Olivier Saillard or Tim Walker, for example, which have nourished her way of embodying a character or simply an image. It also features conversations with Pedro Almodóvar and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, between reflections on performance, co-creation and the importance of costume — all in an editorial composition that rejects linearity.

Where to have fun: At La Montgolfière with A-One Records

This Saturday, December 13, La Montgolfière welcomes A-One Records for a one-day pop-up. The New York record store, newly established in Paris, is presenting for the occasion a special selection of vinyls: rare imports, exclusive picks, and a few gems that have never reached the bins of their 11th arrondissement shop. Listening sessions will run from 2:30 pm to 9 pm with programming by Gotron, Pentz, Bertrand Drumain, Rob On and the A1 team. At once sharp and accessible, the event brings together everything needed to dig through a great stack of records or find an original gift without leaving the 10th district.

Where to shop: At Hilo and Kabas World’s Christmas Market

Until December 14, Hilo and Kabas take over 28 Rue de la Fontaine au Roi for a Christmas pop-up store designed as a joyful pause in the frenzy of the holidays. Technical bags with bold design, merino wool scarves in vibrant colours: the two brands come together around a winter wardrobe that is both functional and desirable. Inside, no flashing garlands, but responsible materials, well-targeted gift ideas and a selection of objects to offer (or keep). An event in their image, perfect for checking off a few boxes on your gift list without running all over Paris.

Where to party: With Tête Vide at Point Éphémère

This Saturday, the label TETE VIDE takes over Point Éphémère for an evening of bass music, Latin club and hybrid sounds. On the lineup: three artists already well established in the underground scene, yet still unseen live in Paris. Cardozo will oscillate between post-club, hard drum and dembow, with live reworked vocal textures. Modieval, equally comfortable with gabber and Latin sounds, will blend funk carioca, bass and dancehall in a percussive and melodic mix. Finally, NMSS will offer a set at the crossroads of hyperpop, techno and Latin Bass.
