NikeLab ACG previews its expanded SS18 collection

NikeLab ACG previews its expanded SS18 collection the last of Hugh's ACG?

We recently reported on the return of the original Nike ACG line, and what that might indicate with concerns to Errolson Hugh’s continued involvement on the line, but for now the sun is still out, and his SS18 collection has just announced its next drop for the summer season. Slightly unusual for the summer months he, and Johanna Schneider, co-founder of Acronym and now NikeLabs senior director of influencer marketing and product collaborations, with whom he co-designed the collection, made use of GORE-TEX fabric in the collection. Centering around the concept of modular pieces, it incorporates the utility of GORE-TEX, the breathability of fleece, and expanded mobility within its new pants design.

Though GORE-TEX is traditionally seen as a fabric mainly suited for the colder seasons, we all know summer weather isn’t always as reliable as we’d like, and having a lightweight, yet rain resistant piece of clothing can come in very handy.

“The beauty of the material we’re using is that it’s both protective and highly breathable. It’s basically a 365-appropriate material. We wanted to make it more seasonally appropriate for summer through the silhouette, for those who prefer a day at the beach house, for example.” Johanna Schneider

Add to that the immaculate design aesthetic of Hugh’s and Schneider and we see a clean and futuristic collection come from ACG once again. Centered around its staple GORE-TEX jacket, with its usual multitude of layers and pockets, and extremely useful interior carry straps. Its this time been developed to incorporate detachable sleeves so as to adjust to the warmth of the summer, and fleece has been used to construct its PO Hoodie.

“We were thinking about what the fleece could look like for summer, we built in more breathability details, like the mesh component in the neck for ventilation, so when you move your head inside the hood, you can stay cool, and also rely on the physical articulation of the overall piece.” JS

There's also the usual skin layer apparel like T-shirts and long sleeves, and lastly we see a new version of its Cargo Pants, with added zipped exterior pockets and its immensely practical “phone” pocket, essentially a double pocket, a layer that sits behind the zipped back pocket for easy access, while keeping the back pocket free for your for.ex usual wallet placement. Its little features like this that are extremely useful in practice, and an excellent embodiment of Hugh’s and Schneider’s utilitarian design.

The collection drops May 17th, check out the preview pics below:
