The first exhibition exclusively dedicated to Virgil Abloh's work in Europe arrives in Paris Virgil Abloh: The Codes will be held at the Grand Palais next September
From September 30 to October 10 inclusive, the very first major exhibition exclusively dedicated to the work of Virgil Abloh in Europe will be held within the walls of the Grand Palais in Paris. In partnership with Nike, the Virgil Abloh Archives present Virgil Abloh: The Codes, a retrospective that traces no less than two decades of multidisciplinary output by the American designer who revolutionized streetwear. Through his 20,000 archival pieces, bringing together hundreds of objects, prototypes, sketches, and images from his career as well as his personal collection and library, the exhibition, which will open on the designer's birthday, is a true ode to his entire career. Beyond showcasing unique and iconic pieces, the exhibition also retraces how Virgil shifted paradigms in fashion, particularly in streetwear, offering a new perspective on the codes that infused his work in clothing, footwear, architecture, music, and even advertising. It also aims to highlight the collaborations that defined Virgil's fashion years, notably with A$AP Rocky, Takashi Murakami, and Serena Williams.
The photos and collector’s items presented during the exhibition will also be accompanied by publications and public programs, such as talks, workshops, performances, and screenings, offering an in-depth look at the themes explored and gathering voices from Virgil Abloh’s creative community. “This exhibition is just the beginning of our work to share Virgil’s legacy and principles with the creative community and the world. Sharing his personal collection, unfinished projects, and major works with the public is an exceptional way to celebrate Virgil’s legacy and his commitment to accessible and collaborative information. Thanks to the Archives, Virgil will continue to live on as a source of inspiration and a beacon of creative knowledge,” said Shannon Abloh, founder and chairwoman of the Virgil Abloh Foundation, and CEO and president of Virgil Abloh Securities. So head to the Grand Palais starting September 30 to see for yourself this already unforgettable exhibition.
