All the latest Apple features New emojis, expanded search bars, and the long-awaited arrival of Apple Intelligence
"Last year, we took our first steps toward our goal of making intelligence useful, relevant, easy to use, and available exactly where it’s needed most—while also protecting user privacy. Now, the models behind Apple Intelligence are becoming more capable and efficient, and we’re integrating its functions in even more areas of all our operating systems," said Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering at Apple, today, Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in Cupertino, California, during the annual product announcement. This year’s big upgrade is the new version of iOS 26 and the arrival of Apple Intelligence. Starting with a new design in Liquid Glass, the new iOS 26 makes the Apple experience more expressive and personal while remaining extremely familiar to the brand’s loyal users. With Apple Intelligence, quick commands are even more dynamic, making iPhones easier and faster to use. Users now have the opportunity to explore their creativity in a variety of ways with Genmoji and Image Playground. The former allows a descriptive text to be turned into a Genmoji, which can then be modified by combining it with other emojis to create a unique and highly personal result. The latter, combining Apple Intelligence with existing AI technology like ChatGPT, is more focused on image creation: from 'simple' paintings to vector art. The combination of Genmoji and Image Playground ultimately allows you to create images inspired by friends and family, with options to change facial expressions and visual features to always reflect their most recent look.
The new Apple system directly addresses the issue of the language barrier for travelers. Thanks to new features in FaceTime, Messages, and Phone, translations will be in real time, enabling users to easily communicate with those on the other end of the line. Translations are immediate and adapt to the type of app in use: in Messages, the text is automatically translated for both the sender and recipient, while in FaceTime calls, users can choose to activate live translated transcriptions while still hearing the speaker’s voice. On phone calls, the translation is spoken aloud throughout the conversation, with the added option of generating conversation transcripts that highlight key points. For music lovers, Apple Intelligence now provides not just translated lyrics but also pronunciation playback, and with AutoMix, artificial intelligence enables seamless song transitions, extending song lengths and syncing rhythms for a real DJ experience.
New updates have also been introduced for the fitness world by Apple. Until now, the Apple Watch has been an ally for tracking personal data during workouts, but now Workout Buddy, currently available in English only, becomes a true personal motivator. By analyzing workout data, training history, heart rate, and all health and fitness metrics, a voice synthesis transforms this into a dynamic generative voice ready to energize users throughout the session. The collaboration with ChatGPT appears to be a major shift: from visual intelligence that recognizes surrounding objects and shows them on Google, Etsy, etc., to identifying dates, times, and locations of events the user is interested in—adding them directly to the Calendar. Writing tools will also help rewrite, correct, summarize, and even transform written texts at record speed. The Camera has also received upgrades: the Clean Up tool removes unwanted elements from photos, while Magic Wand turns sketch drafts into finished illustrations—perfect for graphic design enthusiasts. For frequent travelers, between Wallet and Maps, users will be able to see live flight updates and access airport maps to find their way around. Apple’s new features will be available starting this fall as a free update for iPhone 11 and later, while using Apple Intelligence will require compatible devices such as iPhone 16, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad mini (A17 Pro), and iPad and Mac models with M1 or later. Apple reassures that no information will be shared with ChatGPT without users' consent—a key detail for all those who are wary of new technologies.
