Gabriele Muccino is directing a new TV series about the Gucci family Filming will start shortly and will arrive next year on Sky

We all remember the huge flop of House of Gucci, Ridley Scott’s film starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver that attempted to tell the story of the Florentine family behind the flagship Maison of the Kering group. Between botched accents and stereotypical Italian-ness, the film did everything except thoroughly tell one of the most absurd stories in the Italian fashion system. It now seems that the Gucci family saga will return to the screen thanks to Gabriele Muccino’s new project titled Gucci – End of the Game.

The new TV series about the Gucci family

Bringing everything back to the small screen will be Sky, which has announced the upcoming release of Gucci – End of the Game, a new original series produced by Sky Studios together with Lucky Red and directed by Gabriele Muccino. From the very first details, the project seems determined to take a very different direction compared to the kitschy chaos of House of Gucci.

The series, made up of six episodes, will be based on the memoir End of the Game – Lights and Shadows of My Family by Allegra Gucci and will follow multiple timelines to tell the story of the rise and slow implosion of the family behind the brand. The cast will feature Miriam Leone as Patrizia Reggiani, convicted of orchestrating the murder of her husband Maurizio, Francesco Scianna as Maurizio Gucci, and Matilda Lutz in the role of Allegra Gucci.

From what has been revealed so far, the series will tell the story of the transformation of a small Florentine leather goods shop into one of the most recognizable symbols of global luxury, while also showing everything hidden behind that perfect construction of image, status, and prestige. According to TV Sorrisi e Canzoni, the story will mainly unfold through the dual narrative of the Gucci women. On one side is Patrizia Reggiani, a figure who has by now entered Italian pop culture as the ultimate embodiment of obsession, revenge, and ambition. On the other is Allegra Gucci, daughter of Maurizio and Patrizia, who in her memoir attempts to reconstruct the truth and identity of her family beyond the dark mythology that swallowed it.
