Le19M arrives in Shanghai with the Galerie du 19M Chanel and le19M inaugurate a new international chapter

Le19M, created on the initiative of CHANEL as a hub for the creation and dissemination of the Métiers d’art, opens a new international chapter by landing in Shanghai. From September 25 to November 15, 2026, the Museum of Art Pudong (MAP) will host a cultural program open to all, designed to connect savoir-faire, research, and contemporary imaginaries.
Promoted by the Galerie du 19M, the project brings the values of the Maisons d’art beyond Parisian borders – passion, transmission, innovation, generosity – translating them into a living dialogue with Shanghai: a city of contrasts, crossings, and constant creative energy. Here, the eleven Maisons d’art of 19M meet Chinese craftsmanship and contemporary artistic practices, building a shared ground between languages, gestures, and visions.
Located in the heart of the city, the Galerie du 19M Shanghai is conceived as an immersive space open to diverse audiences, from industry insiders to the curious, invited to enter the savoir-faire of its maisons. The exhibition is an experience that makes visible what often remains invisible: tools, gestures, time, and stratifications that define the excellence of French Métiers d’art, set in dialogue with the dynamism of Chinese culture. The Shanghai edition, the third international chapter, occupies the entire third floor of the MAP and unfolds as a fluid journey.
The project is structured across different levels: from an introduction to the savoir-faire of the 19M Maisons d’art to a collective exhibition that brings together artists and artisans from China and France, often in direct collaboration with the Maisons, guided by an editorial committee composed of Gong Yan, Lin Tianmiao, Zhang Lei, and Christelle Kocher. Alongside this, a retrospective dedicated to the centenary of Maison Lesage, already presented in Paris, traces a century of embroidery and experimentation, from 1924 to the most recent creations made for CHANEL, reflecting a legacy built between memory and continuous reinvention.
As emphasized by Bruno Pavlovsky, president of CHANEL SAS and CHANEL Mode, the project is conceived as «a sensitive discovery of the Métiers d’art», capable of bridging heritage and contemporaneity, participatory practices and collective dimension, affirming savoir-faire as a universal language.
Completing the project, a program of talks, workshops, and educational activities further opens the dialogue, transforming the visit into an active and participatory experience. It is here that knowledge is transmitted, questioned, and renewed, in a continuous exchange between tradition and contemporaneity, between France and China, between gesture and vision.
