6 Events Not to Miss at MUBI Fest Naples From the Villa Floridiana venue to unique DJ sets, here are some events to mark on your calendar
This year, MUBI Fest goes summer and has chosen Naples as its location. There are plenty of titles and events that film lovers won't want to miss, many of which include encounters with prominent figures such as Nicolas Winding Refn, who presents his Her Private Hell in Italy — arriving ten years after the director's last feature film, The Neon Demon. A wide and high-quality offering, including these six gems we suggest you mark on your calendar.
Sotto le nuvole by Gianfranco Rosi
Naples revealing itself within the setting of Naples. That is what will happen with the screening of Sotto le nuvole, the latest documentary work by Gianfranco Rosi. An austere and melancholic black and white — vivid and mysterious — through which he has framed the stories that populate and teem within a metropolis like the one in the shadow of Vesuvius, in a constant atmosphere of familiarity and danger, of calm and imminent crisis. Among citizens, scholars, workers and tourists, Rosi pieces together fragments of lives in this title, which premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival in 2025. At MUBI Fest it will be enriched by a special screening featuring the director in conversation with his composer Daniel Blumberg (Oscar winner for The Brutalist), who will also perform a brief set alongside John Butcher.
Villa Floridiana – 3 July, 9:30 PM
L'inconnue by Arthur Harari
Among the most talked-about titles of the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is the film by Arthur Harari, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Anatomy of a Fall, who returns to the French film festival this time as director of L'inconnue, starring Léa Seydoux. Based on the graphic novel Le Cas David Zimmerman, created by Harari himself in collaboration with his brother Lucas, the film depicts the unexpected event that befalls photographer David Zimmerman and his body swap with a stranger. From that moment on, the man — now inhabiting a woman's body — embarks on a search both for what has happened to him and into his own inner self. A title that, for better or worse, puts the viewer to the test.
Villa Floridiana – 5 July, 9:30 PM
Camp Miasma: Adolescenza, Sesso E Morte by Jane Schoenbrun
Film titles translated into Italian don't always stay true to their original meaning. Camp Miasma: Adolescenza, Sesso E Morte, however, in its extreme simplicity, gets straight to the point — just as writer-director Jane Schoenbrun does in laying bare the perverse bond that can form between a film and the person watching it. The film, which opened Un Certain Regard at this year's Cannes Film Festival, is an unruly yet razor-sharp work that examines who we are as individuals, as identities, and as spectators. One of the most exciting titles of the year, starring the fantastic Gillian Anderson and Hannah Einbinder — absolutely not to be missed.
Villa Floridiana – 4 July, 11:30 PM
Willie Peyote - Elegia Sabauda by Enrico Bisi
MUBI never goes without great music. In collaboration with Wanted Cinema, on 4 July there will be a screening of the documentary Willie Peyote - Elegia Sabauda, directed by Enrico Bisi, with the singer himself taking part in a conversation at the event. Bisi's work traces Willie Peyote's ten-plus years in the music world, immersed in stages and battles fought with notes and words, while taking as its starting point the artist's most vulnerable moment in 2023 and following him through to his appearance at the 2025 Sanremo Festival. A portrait spanning passion and language — both musical and political and social — with the constant aim of staying true to oneself.
Cinema Filangieri – 4 July, 6:00 PM
MUBI & NOTEBOOK: The expression of cinema in print
A unique opportunity for MUBI Fest attendees. Not to be missed is the 5 July talk with Pablo Martín, MUBI's creative director, in which he will explore the making of Notebook, the biannual magazine dedicated to film culture. Martín will shed light on some of the processes behind the project, as well as the challenges that an endeavour like this sets out to face every day in order to expand, deepen and spread its vision of storytelling — both cinematic and editorial.
Cinema Filangieri – 5 July, 2:30 PM
Febbre da cavallo by Steno
A new live reading awaits at MUBI Fest. Following the previous Dramma della gelosia with Marta dal Grandi, Luca Ravenna and Filippo Scotti, directed by Francesco Sossai, this time the chosen title is Steno's Febbre da cavallo, performed for the occasion by Francesco Pannofino and Daniele Natali and directed by Giacomo Ciarrapico, of the series Boris. A live tribute to a classic of Italian cinema that will immerse both actors and audience in the unforgettable world of Mandrake and his companions.
