How Ploom and nss magazine’s "A Study of Form" event went at Fuorisalone 2026 Fioriino signs the fourth and final chapter of Ploom’s activation for Design Week
After the success of the previous chapters of A Study of Milan and its AURA by Ploom* and nss magazine, followed by A Study of Creation, it was the turn of the final chapter: A Study of Form, signed by the Abruzzese artist Lorenzo Fioravanti, known as Fioriino, who has become widely recognized for his customizations of cult objects belonging to the contemporary collective imagination.
Lorenzo Fioravanti has established himself as an artist capable of transforming every garment into a one-of-a-kind piece. His creative evolution, from his first customised denim pieces to collaborations with international celebrities such as Sfera Ebbasta and Kai Cenat, through to his creative partnership with Domenico Formichetti, tells a story of authenticity and innovation deeply rooted in Made in Italy. The final chapter of Ploom, A Study of Form, draws inspiration from the essential, modular and customisable language of Ploom*, exploring the relationship between form, experimentation and contemporary craftsmanship. The project began with an open call addressed to several design universities based in Milan, inviting students to reinterpret and personalise an accessory using different materials and creative techniques. The selected participants then took part in a live workshop led by Lorenzo Fioravanti, during which they were able to develop their ideas, transforming them into design objects.
On this occasion, customization becomes a creative platform: the final chapter of A Study of Milan and its AURA highlights how form becomes a space for experimentation and expression, connecting emerging designers with the evolving aesthetics of contemporary Milan, of which Ploom* becomes a manifesto. For the occasion, Fioriino told us about the nature of his creative process that gave life to his customization practice, which inspired the workshop.
“A Study of Milan and its AURA” is the title of the activation between nss magazine and Ploom. What is your relationship with Milan? And what role does the city play in building your community and in collaborations with other creatives?
I remember as a kid, going up to my small storage room to paint as a hobby, dreaming of what I can luckily say is now my job, and especially of doing it in Milan as often as possible. My first times in this city were a great help in broadening my vision of everything that would interest me in the future. Meeting people with my same passions and others completely distant from my world. So Milan has definitely been fundamental in my journey, what I am today is thanks to all the different realities I have encountered over the years.
What does it mean for you to experiment with materials and customization techniques? What lies behind this transformative gesture? And what value does it have for you to work on objects already rooted in the collective imagination?
Customizing, for me, means breaking and disrupting the industrial seriality of any object produced in thousands of copies, in order to give it a new and different soul. When I was very young, my parents came back from the shopping center with several kitchen utensils and I remember taking a newly bought wooden spoon and drawing a smiling face on it with my markers. It has always stayed in my mind, I think everything I do has its roots in that moment. In fact, for me, today’s objects of desire will always remain wooden spoons.
What is your relationship with the concept of “new” and with virality? In a system obsessed with novelty, what value do you truly assign to it?
I no longer really know what “new” can mean today, for me the real value is not creating something that has never existed, but giving new life to what already exists. In fact, the real “new” lies in taking the time to observe every single detail. While virality is just an accelerator, it makes a message reach more people faster, but that is not my goal.
