Italy ranks 55th in the world for Internet speeds After Latvia and the Islands of Trinidad and Tobago

Speedtest, the global leader society in internet performance testing, released the global index of Countries with the fastest fixed broadband and mobile data internet speeds as of April 2020. Out of a total of 139 Countries analyzed for mobile and 174 for the fixed broadband, the first positions are always dominated by South Asia and Some European Countries. Italy goes down in the list and is over the 50th position: both for the fixed broadband, where it stands at the 55th position, and the mobile, where gains the 57th position, following Latvia and the Isles of Trinidad and Tobago- a problem that the Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte mentioned indirectly yesterday at a press conference, referring to the plan of the departure of the country:

"We are working on a single national fibre-optic network, to strongly promote digital payments and to launch a cashless plan."

The fixed broadband list’s top 10 is comprised of four Southeast Asian and six European countries. The Country with the fastest Internet speed is Singapore (198.46 Mbps), followed by Hong Kong (176.70 Mbps) and Thailand (159.87 Mbps). The first European Country in the list is Switzerland, standing at the fourth place with the speed of 152.05 Mbps, while United States have left the top 10 and retail the 11th position with the speed of 132.60 Mbps

When it comes to mobile Internet speed, for Italy the situation is even worst. The index shows that South Korea owns the first place, with the speed of 88.01 Mbps, followed in second place by Qatar (84.81 Mbps), in the third place by Cina (78.56 Mbps) and in the fourth place by United Arab Emirates (78.56 Mbps). The first European Country to show up retails the fifth position and is the Netherlands (75.32 Mbps), coming up in the list compared to 2019 and taking over the position of Canada. On the contrary, Italy keeps loosing its positions: compared to the Speedtest datas, back in 2018 Italy was at number 47 with the speed of 17.3 Mbps, while today retails the 57th position with the increased speed of 32.03 Mbps.

Despite the broadband resisted the lockdown, Italy is still one of the Countries with the slowest Internet speed of the European Union: to be honest, is the second-to-last, followed only by Poland (30.78 Mbps). This is a bit humiliating, considering that the index has been dominated for a while now by Asian Countries, that of course have much more money to invest in the new technologies, but also by European Countries.
