The Parisian must-have of the moment is neither a Birkin nor a Labubu, but a psychic

The Parisian must-have of the moment is neither a Birkin nor a Labubu, but a psychic The new insider accessory is invisible

Apparently, in Paris, the real flex is having a psychic. Coco Chanel allegedly had one. So did Gabriela Hearst. And Dior, given his famous superstitions? We wouldn’t be surprised if he had his own go-to. Spend enough time in certain Parisian circles, and you’ll hear it. Passed along like a Parisian beauty secret, a trusted facialist, or an underground supplier. To confirm the whispers, we reached out to a Parisian insider just to see if it checked out. She asked to remain anonymous, but responded with two voice notes. The first: an eight-second laugh. The second: “Yes. It’s all my friends and I talk about!” Naturally, we had to dig deeper.

For Audrey, a Paris-based stylist, consulting a psychic wasn’t something she expected when stepping into the fashion world. “I was curious, and when I started working as a stylist’s assistant, I heard about this psychic that all the designers and editors were seeing. Turns out, my boss was seeing her too!” But these recommendations aren’t random. Nadine, a painter in Paris, also found hers through a trail of fashion people, but from the other side of the world. “My healer Anita Madnani lives in Kuala Lumpur. I discovered her from this friend, a former fashion editor, who discovered her through a Malaysian features writer.” Nadine’s been doing sessions for over a year and tells nss that it has changed her, for the better. “She helped me release emotional blocks. Within a year, many of them just disappeared.” Audrey shares a similar experience, adding, Creatives are more sensitive, more attuned to energies, so we’re usually more open to these things.”

Nathaly Bloch, a psychic in Paris, confirms that most of her clients come from fashion, music, and film. She even shares a story about a late fashion designer who was a regular. “Some used to ask me everything, about their personal life, their career. One even asked about their office, which they believed was haunted by a predecessor. A famous designer who once held spiritism séances there.” When we ask her how it all began, Nathaly says, “My parents noticed early. I saw deceased people and predicted the future of relatives. When I was seven, I predicted the death of an uncle before it happened.” Rather than suppressing her abilities, her family embraced them. She was given access to books on spiritualism and esoteric philosophy. Though she studied law, clairvoyance slowly took over. “Even in college, I was tarot reading for friends, drawing their astrological charts.” She laughs: “Clairvoyance always catches up with me. I try to distance myself, but then someone halfway across the world, who knows nothing about me, will start asking questions about their future like it’s written on my forehead.”

Yannick, a music professional, knows this life well. He grew up in a home where clairvoyance was just normal. His mother had the same gift. “It’s hard to explain because it was my baseline,” he says. “For example, I've applied spontaneously for a job, because I just felt like it. And each time, the company was actually looking for a profile like mine, even though there was no advertisement. It's a sudden impulse, a bit like needing to use the bathroom. It just happens.” For Yannick, it taught him to trust his intuition, to pick up on energies, and to develop a form of spirituality not tied to religion. He sees healers or mediums not just as seers, but as translators of the unseen. “A great medium helps you view things from a different angle. It’s not just about the future—it’s about understanding the present in a new light. That’s where meaning, perspective, and relief come in.” He adds, “A medium is like a different kind of therapist, one who taps into the unseen layers of your psyche. It’s like a different kind of psychologist.”

“In the Western world, energy work isn’t so integrated, and I just couldn’t seem to break through those deep, subconscious patterns—many of which are stored in the nervous system,” says Nadine. With a background in psychology and neuroscience before discovering art, she describes her journey into spirituality as a necessary evolution. “I’ve been in therapy myself. I even worked in the psychological field for years. But when I met Anita, I learned so much—life took on a calm, more meaningful rhythm.” For Nadine, Anita’s work is a potent blend of energetic sensitivity and deep healing mixed with predictive astrology and tarot sessions. “She teaches what energy truly is, how it affects us on every level, how we can disconnect from interactions, and most importantly, how to release them from the body.” Nadine explains that we all carry some form of trauma, often locked in the nervous system. “The body continues to release stress hormones when we see, hear, smell, or even sense something that unconsciously reminds us of that pain. Sometimes we feel anxious, angry, or sad without knowing why—and often, it’s not even our own energy we’re responding to.” That’s where Anita steps in. Over a call from Kuala Lumpur to her apartment in Paris, she tunes in.

Stories of an esoteric or psychic Paris are hardly new. France has a history of invisible forces. It’s an old country: religion, the medieval era, legends,” Audrey says. In the 1890s, Joséphin Péladan hosted art and music salons in the city, all with a mystical bent. In Montmartre, just beside Hôtel Particulier, there’s a stone block known as the Passage de la Sorcière, rumored to have once protected a woman who possessed powers. French painters Augustin Lesage, Victor Simon, and Fleury Joseph Crépin claimed to paint under the command of spirits. And over at Père Lachaise, the statue of Victor Noir has its own myth: rub him to meet the love of your life. “Paris is romantic, which is its own kind of spell,” Audrey adds. “Most people go to see psychics because of love, anyway.” Nathaly agrees, but offers a generational perspective. “My youngest Parisian clients—those in their thirties—have a completely relaxed, uncomplicated relationship with clairvoyance and spirituality. With them, I can bring up subjects that used to be taboo.”

Nathaly also makes it clear: “My sessions aren’t just for the elite, anyone can come see me.” She adds, “Parisians’ relationship with esotericism is not very different from that of others, French or non-French. They may even prefer to consult me by email or over the telephone, despite the fact that we are geographically close. Their questions are the same as those of others, and like others they expect total confidentiality.” Yannick seconds it: “A lot of my friends in Paris are open to it because they understand that there’s something else out there. But, I'm not sure we can really say that it's a prestige or a quiet luxury to consult with psychics.” He continues, “I've met people with very different backgrounds, very different resources, who consult them. We mustn't forget that the majority of people go to them because they have a problem, a request.” Audrey adds another layer. “My psychic doesn’t even tell me what to do. Most of the time, it’s more about reassurance. In moments of change or doubt, I see her more as a friend who tells you it’s going to be okay—but somehow, you believe her a little more.” As for predictions? Audrey smiles, “I can’t share those. But let’s just say, I wouldn’t still be seeing her after seven years if there wasn’t something there.”

It’s open to all, yet not for everyone. “I wouldn’t recommend it to just anyone,” Yannick cautions. “It’s a deeply personal experience. But I’ll tell you this: be careful. True psychics, those who are genuinely gifted, are rare. Take recommendations from people you trust, because there are far too many con artists out there.” That said, nss couldn’t resist getting a reading of our own, and Nathaly—recommended by an acquaintance in the industry—generously indulged us: “You seem to have found your place, the right place. I sense a book or screenplay in your future that will be very successful. And the last message: Your soulmate, your grand amour, is truly here.” Did we walk away with all the answers, chakras aligned? Who knows. Have we met the one? TBD. Did we leave mentally casting our movie? Absolutely.
