Kendrick Lamar's minimal cellphone is already sold out An anti-smartphone with no apps to avoid any distraction

Today, it would seem impossible to give up your smartphone. Whether you use it for leisure or rely on specific tools for work, it's extremely difficult to do without it. However, pgLang, an agency founded by Kendrick Lamar and his longtime friend Dave Free, decided to swim against the current by introducing a truly minimalist cell phone to the market with no app and no distraction whatsoever. It's called the Light Phone II and aesthetically resembles an iPod Classic with a Kindle-like display. It supports text messages and calls, can set alarms, can be used as a hotspot, and comes with a unique, self-contained feature: an 8-ball screensaver that can answer questions, similar to a revamped version of Apple's Siri. You cannot install a browser or receive email messages, but you can download a few additional apps on top of the basic version, including a music player and calculator—none of which require an internet connection to function.

pgLang's "ascetic phone," released with a retail price of $299, aims to keep the user less distracted. Its usage is primarily intended for essential tasks, such as setting morning alarms, performing calculations, and receiving text messages and calls. However, it also allows users to listen to music, a nod to pgLang's roots in the music industry, even though they are expanding into various other areas (as evidenced by their recent collaboration with Converse). The pgLang-branded phone is already sold out, and while it was available in only 250 units, it could potentially disrupt the smartphone market in an age where many people's mental health took the hit of too many hours spent in front of the screen.
