Marni collaborates with artists Olaolu Slawn and Soldier Boyfriend for FW25 collection Painting, symbolism and tailoring in a contemporary tale signed by Francesco Risso
Marni returns to explore the relationship between art and fashion with the FW25 Vol.1 collection, born from an intense collaboration between creative director Francesco Risso and artists Olaolu Slawn and Soldier Boyfriend. The project took shape inside a studio in East London, where the three creatives shared an artist residency space, transforming it into a visual laboratory. The result is a narrative made up of enigmatic symbols, fantastical creatures, foxes, tears, and tulips, in a language that blends irony, personal mythology, and social reflection. The works created during this production phase were exhibited by Saatchi Yates under the title “The Pink Sun”, then flowed directly into the collection. The paintings not only inspired the set design of the show presented in Milan, but also found concrete expression in the garments: prints, embroidery, and textures that do not merely decorate, but translate the artists’ creative urgency. The intarsia in the knitwear echoes the density of tempera painting, while the striped poplin hosts highly symbolic graphic compositions. Brushed cotton jersey wraps relaxed sweatshirts, t-shirts, and shorts, alongside bags that reinterpret the shape of oversized tank tops in a functional and sculptural way.
The design of the collection reflects the desire to integrate the artistic gesture into the brand’s sartorial codes, blending expressive freedom with impactful materials. The resulting wardrobe is spontaneous, colorful, and rich in signs and meanings, capable of telling a shared story through visual language. Concluding the creative process is a digital campaign shot by Nicole Vernon at 4 Princelet Street, in a Georgian house in East London. Slawn and Soldier wear the pieces from the collection in a setting suspended between natural light and symbolic shadows, embodying the living memory of a collective journey. The collection will be available starting July 1, 2025, in Marni flagship stores, on the brand’s official website, and at selected retailers worldwide. The project reaffirms Marni’s ability to act as a cultural platform and to transform the act of dressing into a narrative, emotional, and deeply artistic experience.
