After stopping in Seoul, Mumbai, and New York, Dior lands this year in the Land of the Rising Sun for its annual Pre-Fall 2025 collection. On April 15, the French Maison will showcase the women's collection in a mythical, even mystical location in Japan: the garden of the Tō-ji temple in Kyoto. If last year the Maison chose the Big Apple to host the 78 looks of its Pre-Fall 2024, this year it selected a place even closer to its founder’s heart, who had already presented his collections in Japan back in 1953. “In the early 1950s, Christian Dior began collaborating with a silk workshop based in Kyoto: he then designed a series of looks for his haute couture collection that he cut from the precious Japanese textile,” said Chiuri in a statement. “As the cradle of exclusive expertise refined by generations of skilled artisans, the city offers a unique context to rekindle some of these creative exchanges and to present my upcoming fall 2025 collection,” she added.

Built in 796, the Tō-ji temple was one of two temples tasked with guarding the main entrance to the city, then the capital of Japan and seat of the imperial court. Known for its five-story pagoda, this Buddhist temple was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994 as one of the historic monuments of ancient Kyoto. Although cherry blossom season ends in early April, the site features a garden and a pond where turtles and koi carp peacefully swim, providing a serene backdrop that will undoubtedly bring a gentle touch to the show. While it is said that the collection will be designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, the announcement of the date and location of this event comes at a pivotal time for Dior, sparking widespread speculation within the industry. Amid shifts in leadership and creative direction at parent company LVMH and the recent departure of Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez from Proenza Schouler's creative helm, rumors about the potential arrival of Jonathan Anderson (possibly replaced at Loewe by the McCollough/Hernandez duo) at Dior are only intensifying. While the future of Maison Dior remains uncertain, what is known is that it will be in Rome for the presentation of its cruise collection on May 27, and in Kyoto on April 16.
