Seven months after the exit of the famous Jeremy Scott, Moschino has announced Davide Renne to be taking over his role. A forty-six year old Tuscan designer trained at Polimoda in Florence, Renne's name was echoed in Milan during Fashion Month for the position at the helm of the Italian brand. His previous positions include Head of Womenswear at Gucci, where he worked for twenty years with both Alessandro Michele and Frida Giannini, and a long apprenticeship alongside Alessandro Dell'Acqua of N21, whom Renne calls his «first teacher and mentor.»

2023 looks like one of the most peculiar years for the maison, which during the last Fashion Week celebrated the fortieth anniversary of Franco Moschino's launch of the brand in 1983. Certainly, having to bid farewell to Scott after a good ten years of creative direction must have represented a considerable page turner for the maison, which will be completed next month with the official arrival of Renne, on 1 November, and the subsequent catwalk debut scheduled for Fashion Week in February. Jeremy Scott like Franco Moschino have long been known to play with fashion by immersing the brand's stylistic codes in an extremely autoironic and surreal feel, an aspect that has always characterised the maison. From now on, this task falls to Renne, who is strongly inspired by the story of the brand's founder. «Franco Moschino had nicknamed his studio 'the arcade',» Renne explained. «That's how it is: what fashion - especially Italian fashion, and Maison Moschino first and foremost - can achieve with its influence should always be done with a sense of play, of joy. Franco Moschino had nicknamed his studio 'the playroom'. That's right: what fashion - especially Italian fashion, and Maison Moschino first and foremost - can achieve with its influence should always be done with a sense of play, of joy.»

The announcement of Moschino's new creative director adds to the list of new names that have joined the ranks at the helm of the big luxury names this past month, such as Seán McGirr at Alexander McQueen and Chemena Kamali at Chloé. For the Executive Chairman of Moschino's parent group, Aeffe, the choice of Renne was motivated by his strong artistic sensibility. «Today we welcome Davide to the Moschino family,» said Massimo Ferretti. «We have all been impressed by Davide's extremely sophisticated vision, his awareness of the power of fashion to create a living and poetic dialogue with the world around us, and his deep understanding of Moschino's heritage and our codes. He is a brilliant designer, and a special human being: Franco used to say that bad manners are the only real bad taste, and knowing Davide I was struck not only by his obvious talent but by his kindness, his sensitivity. We are certain that he will play a fundamental role in shaping the future of Moschino, a global fashion house with an Italian heart and a DNA that is truly unique in the luxury sector.»
