Rolls-Royce has changed the design of the Spirit of Ecstasy The new version will grace the hood of the company's first electric car, Spectre

Some 111 years have passed since the day Rolls-Royce registered its Spirit of Ecstasy, the statue that graces the hood of its cars, as intellectual property. A date celebrated with a new design in which the automaker's mascot takes a lower, more aerodynamic stance, echoing the design of the original drawings made by its original creator, Charles Sykes.

The new version of the Spirit of Ecstasy is 82.73 mm tall, about 20 mm less than its previous version, while the clothing, often mistaken for wings, has been reshaped to become more aerodynamic and realistic. "The Spirit of Ecstasy is the world's most popular and desirable automotive mascot," said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, managing director, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. "Now it will become more aerodynamic to grace the bow of our bold electric future."

Designed to embellish the hood of the electric Spectre, expected next year, the redesign of the figurine has a dual purpose, aesthetic and practical being able to ensure greater aerodynamics to the car. As per tradition, each Spirit of Ecstasy is finished by hand making them all different from each other.
