Home Alone (1990)

The most famous of Christmas movies.

Everyone knows the plot: Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) is forgotten at home by the family leaving to spend the holidays in France. 

All alone the kid has the time of his life until a couple of thieves intent on robbing the house ...

Fun facts: over the years many have wondered if there was a reason why Kevin had been forgotten at home by mom, dad and siblings, and finally by the Reddit site comes a possible answer.

In a scene, until now passed without being ignored, we see the father of the child throw in the trash just the plane ticket of the character interpreted by Culkin. So when the family is at the airport nobody notices a passenger’s absence, until it’s too late.

“We will have forgotten anything? Keeeviiiin!”. 

 

Edward Scissorhands (1990) 

 

A dark fairytale entered the history of cinema, born from the imagination of Tim Burton.

The character of Edward, first leading role of Johnny Depp, is a strange 'guy' built by an old inventor who died before finishing the job, which is why instead of hands has sharp blades like scissors. When he falls in love, the creature will have to deal with a reality that prevents him from living the life of a normal man.

Pure poetry and beginning of the fruitful collaboration between Burton and Depp.

Fun facts: Winona Ryder, who had previously worked with Tim Burton on Beetlejuice, hated Kim’s character because reminded her when she was in high school that popular girls like her always teased her.

Not just negative sides for the actress who found love in this film. Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder are still the most beloved couple of the ‘90s.

 

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)

 

The McCallister family forgets Kevin again, this time not at home, but in New York.

The boy takes the wrong plane, ends up in the Big Apple and takes the opportunity to enjoy a stay at the Plaza, which to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the film's release, has organized a special package to relive the adventures of the boy, including a menu inspired by the 90s.

Fun facts: in a scene set in the hotel lobby Kevin he asks a question to Donald Trump, owner of the Plaza at the time.

 

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

 

Everyone dreams of Christmas.

Even Jack Skellington, king of Halloween world, who, dissatisfied by the screams and fear classic routine, wants to replace Santa Claus.

The most beloved dark cartoon during the holidays.

Curiosity: contrary to what many think, it is not Tim Burton the director of the film, but Henry Selick. Burton produced and invented history and characters, taking the idea after seeing the Halloween decorations and the Christmas decorations displayed together.

 

Miracle on 34th Street (1994) 

 

The classic of the Christmas classics, the fourth remake of the homonymous Miracle on 34th Street dating back to 1947.

The story is the same: Susan is 6 years old and doubts the existence of Santa Claus, but after meeting with him at the department stores Kris Kringle, a man convinced that he is Santa Claus, he also begins to believe it.

Fun facts: when the film was released, the 20th Century Fox offered a refund to all audiences that don’t like the movie. In the end, 1500 were reimbursed.

 

The Santa Clause (1994)

 

If by chance Santa Claus crashed from the roof and, alas, died, think about it before putting on his clothes.

You could turn yourself into his heir, with a lot of weight gain and white beard, find yourself among the elves at the North Pole and have to distribute the gifts on board a flying sleigh.

At least that's what happens to Scott Calvin in this 1994 film.

Curiosity: the role of Scott / Santa was originally written for Bill Murray, but, in the end, he went to Tim Allen, who is also the protagonist of the sequels The Santa Clause 2 e The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause

 

While You Were Sleeping (1995) 

 

Lucy Moderatz (Sandra Bullock) works at the Chicago Underground ticket office and every day sees a boy whom she falls in love at the metro stop.

When, on Christmas Eve, he ends up in a coma after being attacked by two thugs, the girl helps him and, for a series of misunderstandings, is mistaken for his girlfriend.

Curiosity: thanks to this film, the fifth most watched of the year and getting all over the world with a collection of almost 200 million dollars, and to the previous Speed the career of Sandra Bullock takes off.

 

Jingle All The Way (1996)

If you have made a promise and are fathers, then you will be able to understand Arnold Schwarzenegger’s problems in search of the untraceable Turbo Man.

Fun facts: in 2014, 20th Century Fox made a remake without a member of the original cast with a wrestler in the role of Schwarzenegger.

 

The Preacher’s Wife (1996) 

 

Many in the 90s thought Denzel Washington was an angel, and The Preacher’s Wife he is.

Ok, the plot is weak, but every Christmas this film starring Michael Keaton appears in the schedule of some TV channel.
