The new adidas campaign is filled with Superstars From Samuel L. Jackson to Jennie to Missy Elliot
The adidas Superstar has never been just a sneaker, but a cultural phenomenon that began on basketball courts and journeyed across generations to become a streetwear icon. Following the “The Original” campaign earlier this year, the brand now returns to celebrate the revolutionary impact of this silhouette with “Superstar, The Original.” Set in high-contrast black and white, the campaign pays homage to the sneaker’s original colorway and essential design that has captivated multiple generations. The project is directed by photographer and filmmaker Thibaut Grevet, a prominent figure in the contemporary visual scene, known for reshaping the imagery of fashion and music. At the core of the campaign is a cross-generational cast of personalities who embody true originality: from singer-songwriter Missy Elliott to skateboarding legend Mark Gonzales, NBA star Anthony Edwards, rising Memphis rapper GloRilla, American singer-songwriter Teezo Touchdown, global music icon Jennie Kim, and model and actress Gabbriette. This generational mix emphasizes the Superstar’s lasting cultural impact as a symbol of authenticity and innovation.
The campaign is narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, the iconic actor whose unmistakable voice guides the audience through a story spanning decades of social and artistic transformations. As Annie Barrett, Vice President of Marketing at adidas Originals, states, the goal is not to nostalgically dwell on the past, but to highlight how new generations of cultural pioneers are shaping their own future in real time. The campaign unfolds in two main chapters: “Pyramids”, an evocative teaser where Jackson draws a parallel between ancient monuments and the enduring legacy of the Superstar, and “Clocks”, which brings all seven icons together in a powerful visual statement. On the product side, adidas reintroduces the Superstar in its two classic colorways, accompanied by the iconic Firebird tracksuit. Since 1967, the Firebird has been a cultural symbol worn by artists and global trendsetters, standing alongside the sneaker which, since the late '90s, has been a favorite among musicians and skaters for its versatility and authenticity.
