Wales Bonner presents its first womenswear collection for FW25
The art of masculine-inspired womenswear boldly reinvented
March 11th, 2025
A few days before International Women's Day, Wales Bonner presents its first womenswear collection with a 100% feminine production that brings a completely new vision of glamour at a time when fashion really needs it. In the lookbook, created with photographer Zoë Ghertner, the designs present a mix of masculine and feminine tropes that intertwine in elaborate yet essential clothes. Silhouettes oscillate between utility and elegance in a style that is both eclectic and introspective, while bold fringed dresses and their opulence inspired by archival magazines mingle with knit dresses with open backs, balanced by rugged leather biker jackets softened by decorative Mongolian shearling.
Craftsmanship and the art of creation are honored through denim silhouettes, dyed with indigo in a natural process, which contrast with corduroy pieces, while gold padlock-shaped closures adorn thick coats made from Italian leather and Japanese canvas. But the work on leather, denim, and velvet are not the only details in the spotlight in this FW25 collection. Wool also takes center stage in this lookbook, featured in darned knitwear creations that add a touch of nonchalance. The delicate craftsmanship continues in multicolored macramé sets made in India, as well as in silk and organza sets, where the more aggressive nature of studs transforms into fine, delicate embroidery—almost fragile yet strong at the same time. Still drawing inspiration from archives, the glamour of the '70s is reflected in studded loafers, leather boots, and the iconic Mary Jane Jewel model, reimagined in gold.
This 100% female project from a brand originally created for menswear is proof not only that unity is strength—with an alliance of women involved in everything from garment creation to styling and the lookbook production—but also that it is never too late to embrace the unknown. Wales Bonner’s first womenswear collection embodies all the open-mindedness that defines the British brand, which, since its inception, has offered a distinct notion of cultural luxury, infusing the European heritage with an Afro-Atlantic spirit. Through her extensive cultural research and the multitude of perspectives she embraces, the designer never ceases to surprise us.
