The five most beautiful power couples in fashion When being together and working togheter actually works out

Working with your life partner can be a dream or a nightmare. When it’s a nightmare, it doesn’t last long – but when it’s a dream, great things can be achieved together. The concept of a power couple is not at all foreign to the fashion world, even though the most famous designers often prefer to form romantic bonds with people working outside the field: too many competitions, opportunities to step on each other’s toes or, worse, to find themselves on opposite sides of the barricade. This makes the phenomenon of the power couple all the more extraordinary: maintaining a relationship is already difficult, let alone running a business. Nevertheless, these couples are proof that hope exists for those who want to unite heart and business, and these are the best examples.

1. Lucie & Luke Meier

This couple has come a long way. She is Swiss, studied fashion marketing in Florence, worked first at Louis Vuitton and then at Balenciaga, and was chosen by Raf Simons to oversee Dior’s women’s collections during his tenure. He is Canadian, studied in the USA, was head of design at Supreme for eight years, and founded OAMC. During his studies, for the classic cultural exchange, he comes to Florence and meets her at Polimoda. They get together, take a long summer trip through Italy and France, and eventually marry in 2007. But it is only in 2017, when they are appointed co-creative directors of Jil Sander, that the simple couple becomes a power couple. Their success has not stopped since.

2. Miuccia Prada & Patrizio Bertelli

Legends abound around Italy’s most iconic fashion couple. The best one is about their first meeting at the international fair Mipel, a sort of Fuorisalone for leather goods, in 1977. Apparently, Miuccia arrived at the booth where Patrizio was presenting his line “Sir Robert”, accusing him of copying her bags. As sometimes happens, a small quarrel turned into a love story. They married on Valentine’s Day, no less, exactly 37 years ago. She the creative mind, he the business genius: together in the ’80s they expanded Prada’s offerings from bags and suitcases to shoes, women’s clothing first and men’s later, the sailing team, and the Marchesi pastry shop. There still exists, among fashion insiders and city elites, the vague fantasy of seeing Miuccia run for mayor of Milan – but no keys to Palazzo Marino are needed to make them a power couple. The immensity of Fondazione Prada is enough.

3. Valentino Garavani & Giancarlo Giammetti

The couple is obviously iconic in itself: trips to Capri with Jackie O., photos from the boat, stunning houses around the world, and an army of pugs. They are iconic especially because they never hid behind euphemisms or appearances. Their first meeting is as chic as the rest of their fifty-plus years together: the last day of July 1960 at Cafè de Paris on via Veneto in Rome. The episode we prefer to remember, less sugary, dates back to the Years of Lead: many recall how, in the streets of the capital under the terror of the Red Brigades, the two would drive in a red car without a single worry in the world. A coolness that never left and made them billionaires.

4.  Christophe Lemaire & Sarah-Linh Tran

In a world of couples always in the spotlight, or at least visible from ten kilometers away, the Christophe Lemaire/Sarah-Linh Tran duo is perhaps the most relatable. Lemaire founded his eponymous brand in Paris in 1991, influenced by his professional experience in industrial and interior design; while Sarah-Linh Tran, of Franco-Vietnamese origins and long resident in New York, comes from a solid humanistic background that gave her a distinctive lightness and romanticism. They met one evening in Paris and fell in love immediately. Although Sarah-Linh Tran did not have a professional background in fashion design, her vision of fashion, her attitude toward dressing, and her natural taste soon aligned with Christophe’s. It is precisely this harmony, born spontaneously, that transforms Lemaire not just into a shared creative project, but into a true extension of their lives, where aesthetics, sensibility, and daily life coincide in a perfect balance.

5. Rick Owens & Michele Lamy

There’s no need for introductions. It’s incredible how two creatives with such dark imaginations and slightly menacing appearances are actually the sweetest and most inseparable of all the lovers on this list. They met in Los Angeles in 1990 and have been practically always together since, moving to Paris in 2003 and officially marrying in 2006 (we’d love to see the wedding album), even if it’s not entirely clear where their respective business and pleasure trips take them over time. One thing is certain: together they have a lot of fun. In 2020 Michele appeared at fashion week with a curious accessory: a scale model of her husband’s decapitated head. We don’t know how they resolve marital quarrels, but they are surely both endowed with a healthy sense of humor.
