PUMA relaunches the RS-COMPUTER The upgrade of the original Smart Running Shoes launched in 1986

PUMA, with the RS-Computer sneaker, was the first brand to bring sophisticated electronic hardware and software into the sporting experience more than 30 years ago. The racing sneaker born in 1986 and considered extremely advanced for its time, has revolutionized the way of training runners: the computer placed on the heel translated data and gave athletes the ability to compare past races with future goals , allowing them to understand how to become faster, more efficient and competitive.
Today, PUMA takes a step forward with the RS-Computer Shoe which, while maintaining the original design, presents more sophisticated technological features and provides data in real time.

The original RS-Computer running shoe had a computer chip placed in the heel specially designed to automatically record the time, distance and calories consumed and communicate the results once connected to any Apple IIE, Commodore 64 using a 16 cable pin.

The 2018 version has a new technology, but remains faithful to the original experience. The cable is no longer used to connect to a computer, but to recharge the shoe via a USB connector. The shoe is also equipped with Bluetooth technology to connect to an Android or iOS smartphone and the dedicated RS-Computer app (available on the App Store and Google Play) that allows you to manage and process all information. The app interface uses 8-bit graphics, like the one originally displayed on the computer screen, and a game, also in 8-bit format. The new RS-Computer keeps the original Lunar Rock - Limestone - Peacoat coloring, but only 86 pairs will be available globally, like the year when the shoe was created, and each pair will have a number (from 1 to 86) on the woven label on the inside of the tongue.
At first glance, not even the most experienced one is the very strong similarity with the latest collaboration between Nike and A-COLD-WALL *. Let's talk about the Nike x A-COLD-WALL * Vomero +5 designed by Samuel Ross that seems to have been inspired by this running shoes from 1986 with the recovery of the support very apparent and oversized on the back-heel.

Technical features:

Sensors: each shoe is equipped with a miniature 3-axis accelerometer, used to measure the number of steps taken, the distance traveled and calories burned.

Wireless technology: The RS Computer Shoe has a Bluetooth 4.0 radio transceiver and can be connected to an Android or iOS mobile phone. Once Bluetooth is activated, the shoe records and sends data to the RS Computer Shoe app.

Memory: the shoe can record data for up to 30 days. Every new month is a new beginning. Throughout the month the runner can access the data stored in a table with monthly statistics.

LED keys and lights: there are two keys, Key 1 (red / red LED) and Key 2 (black / green LED). KEY 1 is used to show the status of the daily step target, which can be set in the app, while KEY 2 shows the battery status.

Rechargeable battery: The RS Computer Shoe has a built-in rechargeable lithium polymer battery that can be recharged using the USB cable supplied with the shoes.

The new RS-Computer is available exclusively from Kith, in the PUMA Stores in Berlin, in Harajuku in Tokyo and in Carnaby Street, London.
