It is a known fact. The 90s have made a big come back in the fashion world, acting as an ispiration for designers and fashion enthusiasts all over the world. And when it comes to inspiration, fashion and 90s you can't but think of her, the protagonist of one of the most representative TV series of the decade, who went on to become an absolute style icon: Fran Fine of The Nanny.
The Nanny, TV series aired from 1993 to 1999, centered around Fran's crazy adventures, played by Fran Drescher. The main character is a resourceful and hilarious young woman from Queens, who ends up working as a babysitter for the three kids of a Broadway producer, with whom she will eventually get married. The show reflects perfectly the period it was shot, especially in the incredible range of outfits sported by Fran. The Nanny's style was bold, sexy, colorful, an eclectic mix of prints, textures like leather and latex, super short miniskirts, over the knee boots. Her closet was filled with the biggest 90s designers' clothes, from Moschino (one of her favourites) to Marc jacobs, from Azzadine Alaia to Ralph Lauren, from John Galliano to Anna Sui. The Nanny was already wearing some of the future must-have items.
Here are the best 5 looks from The Nanny, carefully collected on the Instagram account @whatfranwore.
#1 Crop Top
One of the symbol items of the 90s, the crop top is the protagonist of some memorable outfits. Quite often by Moschino, the mini tops are coordinated to a skirt, unveiling the belly button for a fresh look.
#2 Mini Skirt
It's impossible not to notice that in almost every single episode of the show Fran is wearing a miniskirt. In a combination of different prints, materials and colors, paired with blazers and crop tops, the skirt unveils super long legs wrapped in super soft tights.
#3 Suits
Fran made the blazer paired with a miniskirt her uniform, strictly paired with black over the knee boots. Snake, leopard, brocade, tartan or checked print: the variations are endless.
#4 Prints
Zebra, snake, but above all tartan and animalier: Fran doesn't like boring clothes and opts for both classic and innovative prints.
#5 Turtleneck
We know that with these temperatures the last thing you want to think about is the turtleneck, but this item is probably the one Fran wears the most. Worn with checked or leaves printed Moschino miniskirts or under colorful little dresses, Fran proves how the turtleneck is versatile, perfect to use from morning to night.
