One big leap for fashion

nss Discovers: Neuro Studio / SOLVENTUS One big leap for fashion

Next in our series of bringing you brands that we’ve discovered and want to shed a light on, we’ve come across something that's really quite special on a number of levels. Firstly the designs are super sick, and secondly the concept touches upon many of the concerns that we can't look away from anymore with the fashion industry, that of sustainability, and the way they’ve approached is simple, novel and an ingenious all at once. Introducing Solventus, the newest project from Digital-first fashion house Neuro Studio. Each piece is made exclusively for the buyer only once they’ve ordered, and until then exists only digitally, creating a zero-waste system.

The collection’s garments embody cutting-edge technologies like 3D modeling and 3D printing to design, promote and sell clothes without stitching a shred of fabric - making the process fully digital from ideation until the stage of purchase.

Neuro’s 2019 collection is an all-female range dedicated to high performance, customizable performance-wear. The line includes tights and pants that follow every movement, jackets, and coats that work with - not against - increased body heat during rigorous activity, all-terrain footwear with seamless structures, sleek yet convertible hats and anoraks, breathable tops with durable pockets, quick release straps featuring FIDLOCK® buckles, and more.

SOLVENTUS 2019’s garments feature recycled fabrics and a color palette that’s almost exclusively shades of jet-black charcoal, with a dash of neo mint. Its stretch and knitwear garments utilize ventilation system to keep heat out and provide flexibility and breathability to optimize motion. For colder conditions, Neuro’s cold-weather fabrics use a cutting-edge yarn designed and stitched to contain body heat and provides warmth. Performance-wear outfitted with the collection’s lightweight 3D printed mesh fabric is feather-light for breathability and durability and is strategically designed to provide comfort where ventilation and movement are crucial.

Process

SOLVENTUS 2019 is the product of a year spent pushing the limits of 3D software and engineering. Models were 3D scanned to study their motion and heat maps, which enabled Neuro’s designers to not only obtain each model’s precise measurements but also to design garments directly onto each model’s digital avatar, drawing shapes and selecting materials dependent on data collected from their movements and heat maps. Basing a methodology on that the same 3D file created during the design phase will be used to promote, sell and produce a garment. Setting a precedent to match efficiency with sustainability, customization, and flexibility.

Customization

The order process is also innovative and due to the processes preceding it, customization can be brought to completely new levels. Everything is made to order, so each piece is unique with perfectly precise measurements using Digital Tailoring. Customers have the option to select special fabrics such as anti-pollution, anti-UVs or water resistant, and the next is that customers will be able to upload digital avatars of themselves in order to then visualize, from all angles, how they’ll look in the items and can choose the dimensions, fabrics, and colors in real time to create a uniquely sustainable piece. The goal is then to expand onto various augmented reality formats were, VR, AR, and MR will be able to immerse themselves into collections almost like a video game, and catwalks will be able to be VR streamed giving everyone the best seat in the house.

The story

A few months ago while swimming around Instagram, we a bit randomly came across a concept sneaker, that beyond being interesting was really an incredibly cool design and we had to find out who had designed it. This led me to Janis Sne, a Latvian, who when I asked if there were any more details, asked me to please wait a couple month as he had something super cool in the works, which showed itself to be this project. Led together with Clement Balavoine Neuro Studio is a Fashion House and Creative Agency based in New York. In addition to creating its own collection, Neuro Studio provides services to a range of clients within the realm of Fashion, Video Games, Advertising and Film, which makes a lot of sense, and perhaps the unique mix needed to come up with something like this. Fed up with the fashion industry’s waste of resources and lack of optimization, Clement Balavoine created Neuro Studio in 2014. As he witnessed the virtual world taking over, using his familiarity with the film and video game industries and taking inspiration from technologies used by concept artists, Balavoine developed an innovative digital methodology to rethink the outdated Fashion process and has led to where Near studio now stands. There are so many forward-thinking concepts here, that one can’t help but feel how many of them will have to become implemented in the future of fashion in some way or another.

The first SOLVENTUS pieces will start becoming available in 2019, stay locked to nss to get the updates on availability and pricing.
