Calvin Klein debuts a new line Western landscapes meets deconstructed Americana graphics

Calvin Klein, now under the reins of the legendary designer Raf Simons, debuts a new line for the brand under the name of CALVIN KLEIN JEANS EST. 1978. The range reflects a different side of the brands history, with its distinctive and unique view of American aesthetics. Taking its foundation of Amercian style and pushing it forward towards the future with the codes of today's youth culture.

The collection looks to define a modern denim uniform, combining graphic elements and heavy use of Americana motifs. Based around clean-cut and essential unisex garments, t-shirts, jackets, tops, hats, boots, accessories and of course jeans, are adorned with American midwest inspired images and deconstructed logos to incorporate its rich past while giving it an updated contemporary edge. The denim pieces, are the standouts of the collection, and find new life in the impressive all over prints of landscapes, flags, and barns. The other icon of the range is the dense use of patterns taking reference in the photos of Brooke Shields, shot in the 1980s by Richard Avedon. Classic American motifs of stars and stripes, western landscapes, and white-headed eagles, become bold and evocative graphic prints through the fingers of Raf Simons.
