Talent Corner - Quattromani The art of working with four hands

Fall has just arrived in Milan. And if this Fashion Week enchanted all of us, it also reminded us of all those virtuous and young talents who deserve being known, told and admired. There was no better tme, then, to give a fresh restart to our Talent Corner column with emerging Italian brand Quattromani. Quattromani means literally “four hands” and it makes references to any four-handed work, just like our column.

Minimalism, conceptualism often linked to the arts and attention to detail are some of the cornerstones of a brand that is little by little making its way through the difficult Italian fashion panorama. Quattromani is a duo that nourishes from the constant research and experimentation of shapes and textures while taking inspiration from the instant emotion, from that fast moment of artistic revelation. But let now Massimo Noli and Nicola Frau tell us more about them.

1. How was the Quattromani project born?

The Quattromani project was born from our encounter that followed years and single working experiences. We met again at the same school where we'd studied but like professors now. We started talking about possible collaborations till we crafted the idea of working together towards a great poroject. That was when Quattromani began to originate.

2. What are you former school and work backgrounds?

We both attended the same Fashion School in Cagliari and we both interned as a first experience in B.V.M. Le Copains. Afterwards, we got a bit apart due to different autonomous projects to then run into each other again in our school.

3. Your SS14 collection is built on geometries, inlay works and color contrasts: how was it born?

Our SS14 collection Third Dimension originated from the works of Lisa Rodden and Willy Verginer. WE were fascinated by the ability of making geometry so essential and light just like the wings of insects which we then developed in print. We started from such a basis to build special details and play with 50s inspired silhouettes adding the usual sporty touch we like.

4. Art, cinema, streetstyle, travels. Where do you take your inspiration from?

To us inspiration  comes essentially from a sensation, an instant moment. We are often struck by something indefinable. We never take inspiration from something totally material but, rather, from all the emotions that we perceive in a given moment.

5. What is the kind of woman you address to?

We address to an energic woman who does not take her seriously. A woman who likes to have fun. A common woman who likes color, and easy clothing that make her feel comfortable. We like to think that our clothes can live and become part of the life of the person who is wearing them through a memory or a special moment.

6. What are the obstacles that emerging designer have to go through today?

Obstacles are many, so many. From suppliers to store orders. In such an economic moment of crisis, obstacles are always there. However, we strive to react in a creative manner in order to make something always new and competitive.

7. Talking about retail and ecommerce, where do you sell your creations? What is the selling and brand positioning strategy you chose?

We are always in a quest for new ways of spreading and get people know our products. We will soon open an online shopping site. For the time being, our clothes can be bought in Cagliari, Roma and Oristano. We hope to be present soon on more and more stores and reach more clients through our e commerce.

8. Apart from Quattromani, What is your personal style?

We are simple person in the everyday life. We like having and easy going style with color touches.

9. You are young and surely curious about the digital world represented by blogs and social medias: Have you invested in any collaboration with a blogger yet?

Yes, we digital is our world too  especially because, living in an isle, we need to deeper relatioinship rapidly with everything that helps our project take further steps.

10. After Who is On Next what are your next goals?

After this amazing experience, we hope to reach more and more people with our clothes, extending our sales network. The most important goal for us is to see Quattromani develop day by day and keep believing that dreams can become true.
