There is something old and something new in Bottega Veneta's latest SS23 campaign, released today. Besides marking the debut of the Andiamo bag, in fact, the campaign shot by Malick Bodian can be divided into three segments: one set on the Australian coast where the hyper-essential side of the brand is showcased; another that features Kate Moss and the new bag interacting with the set designed by Gaetano Pesce for the brand's latest show; and the third, and perhaps most nostalgic, sees a group of models walking and crossing each other on the streets of Milan, creating a reference (perhaps unconscious, perhaps conscious) to the famous campaign shot exactly ten years ago, for the SS13 collection, by Peter Lindbergh in which young Baptiste Radufe and Freja Beha Erichsen walk the streets of a city in a rarefied, cinematic atmosphere.

The campaign thus shows something new in foregrounding Matthieu Blazy's new concept for Bottega Veneta, but something old in ogling the past. Once again the concept of "luxury in motion" that Blazy spoke of at the time of his own debut is put into practice by showing the garments as much in their dynamism as in their everyday, practical essence. In this sense, even the new bag that stars in the campaign has been emblematically christened, Andiamo, an incitement to move and move forward. And Bottega Veneta is surely going places.
