Polaroid and MQBMBQ's new Black Queer Love campaign

Six artists created as many collages to reflect on the idea of love, community, and representation

Polaroid and MQBMBQ's new Black Queer Love campaign Six artists created as many collages to reflect on the idea of love, community, and representation

For its new project, Polaroid and MQBMBQ - My Queer Blackness My Black Queerness have collaboratively created a mini-campaign created with the intent to explore the nuances of love and the unlimited powers it can unlock in Black Queer people. Whether it be in regards to romantic love, love for oneself, love experienced within the family or even simply the love found in the recognition of self and others.

Black Queer love is something we rarely see represented in mainstream media, and this campaign is a direct challenge to the Eurocentric standards of what is considered worthy or unworthy of being shown. With this project, Polaroid and MQBMBQ wanted to weave an alternative narrative capable of reflecting on the impact that love in all its forms has had on us individually and as a community.

The Instagram campaign opened with a list of six creatives who were selected by MQBMBQ and Polaroid to be campaign ambassadors who signed as many collages depicting their thoughts on love, after which an open call was made for Black Queer creatives from around the world to participate. In closing, four of the participants were selected and received scholarships in recognition of their creativity.
