Their next step in innovative fabric production

Stone Island Prototype Research Series 03 Jumpsuit Their next step in innovative fabric production

During Milan's design week Stone Island opened up its doors to let the public get a glimpse at the next step in their long line of constantly innovative fabric production techniques. Shown in a special installation done by Ken Tonio Yamamoto, who’s also worked on various Shadow Project and Acronym projects in the past. The new technique called, extreme compacting process on nylon base, were shown in a before and after version, embodied in a white jumpsuit, pretreatment, and orange one after.

Stone Island has today released a very limited number of the jumpsuit for sale. Due to the technique being far from ready for industrial scale production, the innovative process has yielded only an edition of 100 numbered ltd ed. pieces. Made up of a mix of 4 polyamide based canvas fabrics, with different weights, compositions, and shrinkages. The finished piece is then treated with a complex high-temperature dyeing process that colors, shrinks, and compacts the materials from 0 to over 25%, re-proportioning the aesthetics thanks to Stone Island’s expertise in pattern making and to the know-how of its color laboratory. The addition of a special agent to the dye formula makes the piece anti-drip as well.
