G-STAR presented the new collection FW26 The Spotlight Returnsmcollection represents the brand's new language, increasingly present-focused
G-STAR unveiled its new FW26 collection with Spotlight Returns, a fashion show held at RAWFACTORY, the brand’s headquarters in Amsterdam. Returning to the place where design, research, and archive converge, the show marks a moment of renewed focus for the brand as it steps back into the spotlight. FW26 was presented as a continuous show rather than a traditional runway, thanks to the alternation of menswear and womenswear unfolding through a series of chapters, united by a shared denim language that perfectly reflects G-STAR’s new approach: instinctive yet considered.
Between tradition and innovation
The opening chapter is introduced by artist Frenna, who sets the tone by presenting RAW RESEARCH designed by Lisi and Rushemy Botter. This first phase focuses on innovation, with denim explored through unconventional details and proportions: seams are displaced, volumes exaggerated, and surfaces left raw. RAW RESEARCH is conceived as a constantly evolving approach, allowing ideas to be tested and denim to be redefined, emphasizing its materiality and transformation processes.
As the show progresses, experimentation gives way to clarity. The second chapter, ARCHETYPES, celebrates G-STAR’s heritage and archive, blending timeless design with outstanding craftsmanship. Crafted from carefully selected fabrics, the garments embody the brand’s original essence. Heavier denims and reinforced seams, clean washes, and functional details introduce a sense of longevity, while still offering a fresh interpretation for the present.
Major returns and new discoveries
A key element underscoring G-STAR’s commitment to denim innovation is the return of the iconic Arc for FW26, originally introduced in 2007. Today, it remains an icon thanks to its engineered fit: the Arc features twisted leg seams that create an anatomical corkscrew shape. For the new fashion season, both loose and slim versions have been reintroduced, continuing to challenge conventional denim construction.
As the narrative unfolds, womenswear moves into the spotlight, emerging as a defining force of FW26. The design language is clear: feminine, tailored, and refined. Strength and elegance go hand in hand, while contoured seams and architectural silhouettes redefine denim. G-STAR womenswear stands at a pivotal moment in its development, emphasizing the central role of women in the present and future of the brand.
A 360-degree event
The chapters are accompanied by fragmented voice-over elements taken from an interview with Anton Corbijn, making the experience highly immersive. Rather than narrating the collection, his voice acts as a catalyst for attention, highlighting themes of process, observation, and craftsmanship.
By staging FW26 in the RAW SPACE, the brand returns to its origins: the headquarters reflect how the Spotlight Returns collection was developed, resembling a recalibration to the times rather than a total reinvention. G-STAR’s goal is clear: to keep pace with contemporary denim, while staying true to its identity.
