Renzo Piano Designs a new Home for contemporary art in Oslo

Renzo Piano è forse uno dei più importanti architetti nelle progettazioni di case museali, ma nel tempo ha anche provato il fatto che non è inseribile in una sola tipologia costruttiva. La sua ultima fatica è a Oslo, e riguarda la nuova casa per l'Astrup Fearnley Museet, il Museo d'Arte Contemporanea, a cavallo di una serie di canali, in un rivitalizzato quartiere vicino al mare, in cui la struttura dispone di un robusto rivestimento in legno, colonne in acciaio sottili, e un tetto curvo che ricorda una rete da pesca gettata. Piano ha contribuito a catturare l'essenza della impostazione nordica. "Luoghi dialogo", dice del suo approccio all'architettura: "Bisogna stare attenti e ascoltare".

Renzo Piano is perhaps most famous for designing museums, but he has also long proved that he can’t be typecast. The architect’s latest work is in Oslo, where his new home for  the Astrup Fearnley Museet, a museum of contemporary art, straddling a series of canals in a revitalized waterfront neighborhood, the structure features rugged aspen-wood siding, thin steel columns , and a curving roof that brings to mind a thrown fishing net. Piano has helped capture the essence of the Nordic setting. “Places talk,” he says of his approach to architecture. “You have to be careful and listen.”
