What is Targaryen Blonde The new shade viral on TikTok thanks to House of the Dragon

If you are among the few who have not seen House of the Dragon, you may be amazed to notice Gen Z's latest fetish on the streets: an icy blonde dye shade on lengthy hair to recall the look that has elevated the Targaryens to style icon status back in the days of Emilia Clarke as Daenerys. The first season of the Game of Thrones spinoff, HBO's House of the Dragon, recently concluded in a riot of betrayals, incestuous relationships, and gothic costumes set 172 years before the birth of the heroine Daenerys Targaryen, also known as the 'Mother of Dragons, as well as the original ice blonde and therefore also the 'Mother of the Blondes'.

In the first book of the series on which Game of Thrones is based, the author, George R.R. Martin, described the Targaryens as being endowed with "striking beauty, with lilac, indigo or violet eyes and silver-gold or platinum-white hair". Now, with an entire show full of Targaryens, this particular shade of Targaryen blonde could come to life outside of fiction, generating a stream of TikTok videos so consistent to trouble the New York Times. This month, Megan Fox debuted a 'Targaryen' look on Instagram, replacing her usual brunette hair with an icy blonde, while for Chloé's SS23 show in Paris, Gigi Hadid's new shade was already being welcomed as a Targaryen Blonde by Marie Clair, and although Kim Kardashian's post-divorce frosty look is not dragon-inspired, it has certainly helped to increase the trend. On TikTok, brave fans opted for bleaching, others simply tried the look through a user-created filter, creating a total stream of 7.1 billion views. But with the arrival of season two, we should not be surprised to see an increasing number of blonde heads on the streets.
