Helly Hansen and Sandro together for a capsule collection

The sailing aesthetic of Helly Hansen meets the French minimal taste of Sandro

Helly Hansen and Sandro together for a capsule collection The sailing aesthetic of Helly Hansen meets the French minimal taste of Sandro

The contamination between high fashion and sportswear isn't something new, but the collaboration between one of the most refined and minimal Parisian brands and the label synonym of sailing technical wear is something brand new. The unexpected union is the Fall/Winter capsule collection between Sandro and Helly Hansen: Sandro's minimal-chic taste revisits some of the pieces that made the Norwegian brand well-known in its long story.

It all started when Captain Helly Juell Hansen founded his company in 1877 in Oslo, Norway. The workers of the harbour and all the Norwegian sailors needed to protect themselves from the coldness and the elements of the North Sea, that's why Hansen and his wife Margrethe launched their first waterproof, windbreak jackets and pants and raincoats. Starting from the Captain's vision, the brand has reached a leader position in the outdoor techwear market, thanks also to that logo, made by the two Hs, incredibly elegant. As it happened for other brands, during the 90s tech baggy coats and jackets were adopted by the hip-hop culture, especially in England, with Redman and Mobb Deep, or in Paris with JoeyStarr and Kool Sheen.

Taking inspiration from the 90s aesthetic, Sandro has reworked some of Helly Hansen items for the AW18 capsule collection. Puffer Jackets, sweatshirts, T-shirts that feature the Norwegian flag, and of course the sailing jacket. Even though they look very technical, the jackets aren't made for a race in the North Sea, but rather to be worn around the streets of Paris, which can be very cold in the winter time.

The collection will be available on Sandro website from September 11th.
