5 things to do in Milan this weekend

Between university sessions or afternoons in offices, we spend the year looking forward to summer only to realise that summer in Milan is a bit like one of the seven plagues of Egypt: it's hot and there are a lot of bugs. Before Fashion Week brings with it rivers of alcohol and good nights to confuse our senses, to make it all more bearable there is 5 things: a guide to catching the best of Milan in the weekend to come.

To Eat - Vietnamonamour

Among the best ethnic restaurants in Milan is Vietnamonamour, which has been bringing Vietnamese cuisine specialities to the table for over fifteen years. It has two locations: the first, historical, in the Città Studi area, the second in the Viale Zara area, a period house that reveals a place capable of evoking oriental atmospheres. Themed locations where you can taste, in addition to the classic crispy Vietnamese rolls, Pho, a traditional soup made of rice noodles with herbs and beef.

To Discover - Steve McQueen at Hangar Bicocca

From 31 March to 31 July, Hangar Bicocca is hosting an exhibition, organised in collaboration with London's Tate Modern, dedicated to Steve McQueen, the British director and artist who won an Oscar in 2014 for his 12 Years a Slave. McQueen, the Hangar recalls, «has created some of the most significant works in the field of moving images in the last 30 years, turning his radical gaze on the human condition, its dramas and fragility, and touchingly and provocatively capturing current issues such as the construction of identity, the sense of belonging, and the right to freedom.» But if this is not enough to convince you, know that admission is free.

To Chill - The Brera Botanical Garden

The Brera Botanical Garden is a true museum and historical garden dating back to 1774, located in the heart of Milan within the Palazzo Brera cultural complex. It was the Archduchess Maria Theresa of Austria who transformed it into the Botanical Garden as part of a wide-ranging project to promote agriculture and the arts. Here the students of the Gymnasium learned about the plant world and medicinal plants were cultivated for the nearby Spezieria Braidense, now a place open to the public to enjoy a bit of nature in the middle of the city.
