The new CG x Rockstud X Valentino Garavani sneaker

The first chapter of the Valentino Garavani Rockstud X project

The new CG x Rockstud X Valentino Garavani sneaker The first chapter of the Valentino Garavani Rockstud X project

UPDATE: 10/06/2021: Tomorrow the new sneaker co-created by Craig Green and Pierpaolo Piccioli will officially debut as part of the Valentino Garavani Rockstud X project, an open lab that will see international designers and brands reinterpret the Rockstud style introduced ten years ago by Piccioli in the brand's collections and has since become the symbol of the "new" Valentino. Tim Blanks of Business of Fashion, who previewed the sneaker yesterday, defined it "an impressively brutalist sneaker", comparing its shape (visible at the moment through a photo only) to the Roman palaces's bugnato, the armour of gladiators, the sandals of pilgrims. That Craig Green and Pierpaolo Piccioli were total masters of fashion design had been known for years, but none of Valentino's other collaborations so far had produced such a silhouette. At the moment there is a complete lack of information about the release except that there will be four colourways and that the style was meant to be genderless.

The sneaker will be produced in a limited edition and will be available in four colorways: Black, Light Ivory, Army Green and Deep grey. The official debut of the new collaborative silhouette will take place tomorrow, June 12, at Dover Street Market locations in London and Ginza. Afterwards, the sneaker will be made available globally in Valentino's boutiques and online on the brand's official website.

The collaboration with Craig Green, which will also include the realization of an installation of wood and recycling paper, is only the first chapter of the Valentino Garavani Rockstud X project, and although the next collaborations that Piccioli has in the pipeline have not yet been revealed, it is reasonable to expect that we will see more than one debut in the coming months , starting next season.

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the introduction of Rockstud studs in Valentino's collections, Pierpaolo Piccioli presented the Valentino Garavani Rockstud X project. The project will include a series of collaborations with international designers, brands and artists who will give their interpretation of Valentino's famous "Stud". The "Stud" is now the symbol of the resignification wanted by Piccioli for the brand's languages, recalling both the punk atmosphere of the studs and the bugged construction of the Roman noble palaces. The first personality to give his twist to the "Stud" will be Craig Green, who will create a unique item reinterpreting the aesthetic language established by Piccioli ten years ago.

Details about the product, its presentation and distribution have not been disclosed but this unprecedented collaboration is bound to cause discussion. In addition, Green's will be only the first of the big signatures on the Valentino Garavani Rockstud X project, which will become a real laboratory in continuous activity in which the "Stud", true signature of the ten-year regency of Piccioli, will see expanded and enriched its identity along with that of the brand – a process already started with the spectacular fashion show held in Milan during last fashion week.
