Why Kim Kardashian West's venture into law is no surprise The reality star revealed her decision to study law during the latest issue of American Vogue

Earlier this month American Vogue released their May issue with celebrity Kim Kardashian West as the cover star. Although, the celebrity’s cover feature came as no surprise, seeing that she has been featured by the magazine on several occasions, what the world did not expect is what she revealed during her interview. During a chat with the magazine, Kardashian West revealed that she is currently studying to become a lawyer

This came as a surprise to many because of the superstar’s unconventional rise to fame during the past ten years. Kardashian’s career was said to be originally launched in 2003 after her sex tape with American singer Ray J was leaked and pretty much broke the internet. Following this scandal, the star along with her family used the opportunity to change the narrative by creating their reality TV series Keeping Up With The Kardashians, which captured the attention of much of the world who were tuned in to see what the superstar’s life was like. Ever since then, the Kardashian along with her sisters have remained in the world’s spotlight and have taken on a great deal of work in contributing to the world of fashion and lifestyle, especially following her marriage to rapper Kanye West. The celebrity’s frivolous exterior and reputation which through much of the past seemed to only be concerned with fashion, partying, her wealth and other lightweight issues is what has some people confused about the star’s latest career path.

However, what many seem to be forgetting is Kardashian’s background. Before the release of her sex tape in 2003, although not as famous as she is today, Kardashian and her family still had some weight to their name. Her father, the late Robert Kardashian Sr was an American attorney and businessman who became well known after being the defence attorney to former American footballer O.J. Simpson during his infamous murder trial. This world of legalities is what was said to have fascinated a young Kim Kardashian and may have pushed her to make the decision to study law: “My dad had a library, and when you pushed on this wall there was this whole hidden closet room, with all of his OJ evidence books. On weekends I would always snoop and look through. I was really nosy about the forensics,” she told American Vogue. In addition to this, the reality star has been making a few moves which have hinted at her venture towards this decision.

Last summer she played a great role in the release of 63-year old Alice Marie Johnson who had been imprisoned in Alabama for 20 years for a non-violent drug charge. Mrs West visited Donald Trump herself at the White House to argue her case for which the president eventually granted clemency. Following her success with this case, the White House’s next call to the celebrity was what confirmed her decision.

The White House called me to advise to help change the system of clemency and I’m sitting in the Roosevelt Room with, like, a judge who had sentenced criminals and a lot of really powerful people and I just sat there like, Oh shit. I need to know more, she explained during her interview.

Kardashian West began her four-year internship with a law firm around the same time this happened and although she is studying law, she will not be attending law school as California is one of the few states that allows people to take the bar with a law school degree. Next summer she will take the exam known as the baby bar, and if she passes, will continue for three more years of study in an effort towards being fully certified.

Despite her infamous story, her background seems to have prepared her for this moment, and if Elle Woods from Legally Blonde can be successful, so can Kim Kardashian.
