Tom Sachs and Nike: the art of creating a sneaker Here's the release date of the new Mars Yard Overshoe

***UPDATE***
The release date of the Mars Yard Overshoe has finally revealed after several postponements.
Friday, May 10th the sneaker will be finally available at retail price €454

Tom Sachs and Nike have reached the third chapter of the collaboration. It all started in 2012 with the NikeCraft Mars Yard 1.0, an object that embodied the best of the concepts of art, space and sneakers. Made with the active participation of NASA, the shoe mixed the sole of the Nike SFB, the Vectran fabric, used in airbags for landings on other planets, and some details of the overshoes used in the Apollo missions. In 2017 the second version of the sneaker was released, the NikeCraft Mars Yard 2.0, a technically improved reworking of the original model: external covering constructed with various types of nylon and polyester for a complete protection, two Fidlock magnetic buckles to keep the foot wrapped.

Now the visionary artist and the sportswear giant are preparing to launch the Mars Yard Overshoe, an accessory made of Dyneema, a strong fiber used for the rope and the boat sails, which recalls the silhouette of the snow boots and, like it, it's designed to combat the hostile winter climate. His nickname is, in fact, "Marchyard", a reference to March, the ugliest and most humid month of the year for the American artist.

The Tom Sachs x Nike Mars Yard Overshoe will be released on October 11th exclusively at the Dover Street Market in London via an online lottery, while, only later, a larger version will be released. To celebrate the new sneakers, "Paradox Bullets" has just been shown at the Frieze Art Fair in London, a film that unveils the new Mars Yard Overshoe. The short film, a sort of meditation on "the contradiction, complexity, nuance and fidelity of the rules" is interpreted by Ed Ruscha, in the role of a man in the Mojave desert who loses his keys while attempting an important delivery, narrated by Werner Herzog is directed by Van Neistat.
