Schools have been among the first institutions to adapt to the new measures of quarantine. How did your school react to the state of emergency? In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of online classes?
I'm attending a master's degree course in accessory design at the IUAD in Naples. The institute allowed us students to study from home without any problems. For me it's a huge relief to stay at home during this pandemic, without having to worry about how I should've come up with ways to attend classes, but I think the main problem of working at home is the loss of the sacredness of schools and institutions: being at home doesn't allow us to divide time and space between working and relaxing, and that could lead to a lot of stress and anxiety.
The Fashion and Design Industries have been aggressively afflicted by the state of quarantine and social distancing. As a consumer, but also as a future insider of those systems, what do you think the worst consequences of this crisis will be?
We're going to change the relationship we have with our body and others' one. That would lead to a fashion that is oriented towards blocking the spread of this and other diseases. There's been the normalization of wearing surgical masks and consequently a great personalization of them through colours, patterns, embroideries and whatnot. Also, we should take care of all the leftover stocks from the last two seasonal collections. We need to recycle and upcycle them to avoid the waste of so many products, most of which would just end up in landfills and create more pollution in our suffering environment.
Your work is built on creativity. While we’re all in quarantine, what is your solution to keep on being creative? Where do you find your inspiration in this moment?
I read and listen to a lot of books and essays, I watch films and I try to discover new trends by looking for them on Instagram, TikTok, Reddit etc.
