Schools have been among the first institutions to adapt to the new measures of quarantine. How did your school react to the state of emergency? In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of online classes?
Personally following the online lesson I pay more attention, I feel like I'm more focused. Another advantage is the fact that, since I am a commuter, I don't have to take public transport. Among the cons there is certainly the fact that I cannot physically meet not only the teachers but also my classmates. Moreover, during phase 1 of COVID19 it was very difficult to deal with the laboratories, especially to find the materials and the timing involved, but also in terms of design research. So there was a necessary forced readjustment that encouraged me to use my resources, especially digital ones, in the best possible way.
The Fashion and Design Industries have been aggressively afflicted by the state of quarantine and social distancing. As a consumer, but also as a future insider of those systems, what do you think the worst consequences of this crisis will be?
For sure this crisis has ignited a vicious circle that sooner or later would have hit the fashion system imposing changes and readjustments. It has definitely slowed down the speed of the fashion industry, perhaps allowing us to acquire a greater awareness. It is focusing and is investing in the digital world, hoping for process innovation, although actually fashion, as well as visual, is a tactile business. Moreover, even the interruption of fashion weeks, fairs and all events related to fashion in general is certainly a hard blow, just think of the number of people involved and all the resulting changes.
Your work is built on creativity. While we’re all in quarantine, what is your solution to keep on being creative? Where do you find your inspiration in this moment?
My solution is to experiment: one thing lead to another; creativity is a dynamic process that doesn't stop and this situation has given me the chance to realize it even more; the fact that I can only dedicate myself to university has given me the chance to have more time to reflect, to make stuff with greater wisdom and to experiment more.
