Interview Magazine Selfie Issue

Interview Magazine Selfie Issue

It’s under everyone’s eye that the selfie has become a new model of communication: the word has been officially inserted in the dictionary and recently a new (printed) magazine called “Selfie” has seen the light, aiming to unveil all the secrets to take the perfect self-portrait.

Even American magazine Interview, founded in 1969 by the eclectic Andy Warhol, decided to pay homage to the phenomenon. The September issue of the mag is entirely composed by celeb’s selfies: from Madonna to Miley Cyrus, from Riccardo Tisci to Stefano Gabbana.

For the first time the protagonists shot themselves, instead of being shot by a talented photographer. The covers in the newsstands are 8: basically you can choose your favourite selfie.

Among the faces chosen for the cover there’s of course the person with the highest number of followers of instagram ever: Kim Kardashian. Nobody actually knows what her profession is or what her ambitions in life are, but something is certain: Kanye West’s wife loves to be photographed and to photograph herself. In the Interview cover she poses during a Facetime session with friend and fashion photographer Mert Alas, who catched her in a series of – quite erotic – screenshots.

The glossy world of fashion photography is getting closer and closer to the democratic language of social networks, and which magazine could express the concept better than the one founded by Andy Warhol (who had already imagined it all, more than 50 years ago)?
