Portsmouth FC unveiles new logos Two designs to be used from 2018/19 season: cop or drop?

Announced a few days ago on the club's website, Portsmouth FC successfully presented their new logo. It is not a single crest, but two and both will make their debut starting from next season. The first one is more traditional and it will be used on the jerseys, while the second, more minimal, will be used only for merchandising products. In both badges, the year of birth is explicitly indicated and the color yellow is missing, even if as stated by the commercial director Anna Mitchell, "they still reflect the club's history and heritage". The rebranding process began last November when the club had given the opportunity to involve the supporters and evaluate six different models: an open survey which was answered by about five thousand fans and the most famous organized groups. The final result has more or less satisfied everyone, as confirmed also by the managing director Mark Catlin who commented: "I am really pleased with the final outcome. This is another key building block in place to commercially protect the club going forward".

Shortly, nothing to do with what happened a few months ago in Leeds for a similar operation, whose feedback from the fans had been so negative as to compromise the project and force the board to review it completely. How much will the club benefit from in terms of results? Currently the Pompeys, sunk in League One after seven brilliant seasons spent in the top flight between 2003 and 2010 (and one even in the Europa League), are chasing a placement for promotion play-offs, after a league of ups and downs. In their files, we remember a lot of highly respected players, and a great Afro tradition: from Teddy Sheringham to Sulley Muntari, from Kevin Prince Boateng to Aiyegbeni Yakubu, passing by Peter Crouch, Nwankwo Kanu, Lassana Diarra, Andres D'Alessandro and Niko Kranjcar.
