Seán McGirr has left the creative direction of McQueen The announcement comes from Kering, the group that owns the British Maison
Kering has just announced that Seán McGirr, who has been leading McQueen since 2023, has stepped down from his role as creative director of the Maison. The designer presented his final collection for McQueen last September at London Fashion Week SS27, but his successor has yet to be announced. This week has seen a wave of creative director departures: in Paris, Anthony Vaccarello left Saint Laurent after ten years, while from the United States, Veronica Leoni has just stepped down from the helm of Calvin Klein Collection.
The announcement of McGirr's departure from McQueen is further confirmation of the radical strategy that Luca De Meo, CEO of Kering, is implementing to revitalise the group's Maisons. «I would like to thank Seán for his contribution and dedication to Alexander McQueen. Our ambition is to define a new and bold direction for the maison, drawing on its unique heritage of sartorial excellence, uncompromising creativity and rebellious spirit, to reaffirm its place as one of the most innovative and culturally relevant voices in the luxury landscape», commented the CEO in the official statement shared by Kering.
