For the first time in the brand's history, Canada Goose has hired a creative director. It's Haider Ackermann, a French designer once described by Karl Lagerfeld as the "new Yves Saint Laurent." The first Ackermann-signed capsule collection will be released next autumn, the brand announced, but just hours after the announcement, the first campaign under the new creative direction has already been unveiled. In partnership with Polar Bears International (PBI), a non-profit for the conservation of polar bears, Ackermann posed in front of the camera alongside American actress and activist Jane Fonda. «I have put all my strength into inspiring planet-respecting choices to address the climate crisis, and collaborating with Haider and Canada Goose to bring attention to what is happening in the Arctic is impactful, important, and essential,» said Fonda.

For Ackermann, Canada Goose reflects his core values, such as credibility and a commitment to making the world a better place. «The impact this brand has had on the world around us is remarkable and inspiring,» he added. «I consider myself a student of the environment, and my journey to Churchill has ignited the fire to do more and be more. My hope is that, by joining forces with the extraordinary climate advocate Jane Fonda, we can help push people to act, and to do so now.» Canada Goose CEO Dani Reiss has transformed the company into a global business in just over twenty years, taking the brand from a $3 million turnover in 2001 to a billion today, and now he's ready to embark on a new journey with Ackermann's support, clarifying in an interview with BoF: «I have always told everyone in the company that we are not fashion. We understand that we sell products in the fashion market and that our customers are fashionable people, but we ourselves are not a fashion brand. We are the Land Rover of clothing.» Starting with the partnership with Polar Bears International, it's evident that Ackermann's collections for Canada Goose won't resemble the sensational and elegant looks he's created over the years for celebrities like Tilda Swinton, Timothée Chalamet, Penélope Cruz, Victoria Beckham, Janet Jackson, and Kanye West, but we're sure the designer has some surprises in store.
