Chanel top 5 Cruise shows After Chanel Cuba success

Pre-collections. Cruise. Resort. Many names that in recent years have become synonymous with iconic shows with stunning clothes and spectacular locations.

The next ones? On May 28 Louis Vuitton in Rio de Janeiro, Dior on May 31 in Oxfordshire, Gucci on June 2 at Westminster Abbey in London.

Everything, however, started in 2004 in Paris, when Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel for the first time transforms a pre-collection into a must-see event for editors, buyers, VIPs and fashionistas. Before then, they were only anonymous showroom appointments, after, they become the new places to be. In recent seasons they have become an important opportunity for luxury brands to impress customers and journalists and succeed in new markets, opening a race to the coolest project.

Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Dior - the only one to be a worthy opponent with its beautiful Palais Bulles fashion show - try to steal Chanel's prize for the most spectacular event.

With 19 shows in 9 different countries in 9 years, the fashion house of Madame Coco remains unattainable. Its proposals are the most daring, in a crescendo of expectations and grandeur.

Resort and Métiers d'Art, aka Pre-Fall, have traveled anywhere: Miami, New York, St-Tropez, Venice, Moscow, Dubai, Rome, Edinburgh, Seoul... Havana.

Here are the 5 most spectacular ones:

#1 Pre-Fall 2016: Paris-Rome

Where: Cinecittà studios, Theatre 5, the favorite of Federico Fellini, in a rebuilt '20s Parisian street, including boulangerie, brasserie, patisserie, metro and cinema.

What: The 52 models, including Bella Hadid, Jamie Bochert and Mariacarla Boscono, wear fishnet stockings and sabots, boucle suits, wool capes, mini dresses, in a triumph of black and white.

We love: The beautiful sets, the Brigitte Bardot style beauty, black camera shoulder bag.

#2 Pre-Fall 2015: Paris-Salzburg

Where: In Austria at Schloss Leopoldskron, a romantic eighteenth century castle with a view on lake Leopoldskroner Weiher.

What: Flared jackets, pea coats, boleros, maxi dresses, trimmings, lace, with a clear reference to Tyrolean style.

We love: The Sissi atmosphere, amplified by Reincarnation, prequel video of the show, where Cara Delevingne and Pharrell dance and sing along as Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth.

#3 Pre-Fall 2013 Paris-Edinburgh

Where: Linlithgow Palace near Edinburgh, the former residence of Stuart, including bagpipes and atmospheric lighting.

What: "Dress to kilt". A triumph of tartan, tweed, ruffs, ribbons, lavish decorations recalling Mary Stuart.

We love: The opulent dresses, the location and collection that makes us live in a fairy tale in the balance between Gothic and history.

#4 Resort 2013:Paris-Versailles

Where: The sunny garden of Versailles palace, including fountains, stairs and flowers.

What: "It's Coco Rock, Not Rococo!" Lagerfeld says. In front of Vanessa Paradis, Tilda Swinton, Ines de la Fressange and Alice Dellal, tight bodices and very short skirts, wigs and sneakers with wedges, all in a pastel overdose.

We love: This Marie Antoinette of our times, less seventeenth century and more Sofia Coppola.

#5 Resort 2010: Paris-Venice

Where: The Grand Hotel Excelsior Lido Resort.

What: A sophisticated and timeless collection of capes and pieces with a marine echo.

We love: the mysterious and romantic Venice at sunset, the beauty and style tribute to Marchesa Luisa Casati, the elegant and nostalgic atmosphere that makes this show a must-see films, by Fellini or Visconti.
