Chanel releases a free magazine on October 23 When fashion reinvents print
As the publishing industry continues its digital transition, Chanel is once again making a bold bet on paper. On October 23, the house of the camellia will unveil the second volume of ARTS & CULTURE Magazine, a free, 300-page printed art publication published by the Chanel Culture Fund. Balancing support for contemporary creators with the assertion of its status as a full-fledged media outlet, the brand confirms its deep-seated commitment to print.
A flagship initiative of the CHANEL Culture Fund - an international program launched in 2021 to support artists and prestigious partner institutions such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris or the National Portrait Gallery in London - ARTS & CULTURE Magazine has established itself as an exceptional publication dedicated to today's ideas and creators. This second issue extends the inaugural ambition of summer 2025, which celebrated five years of global cultural partnerships from Shanghai to São Paulo through figures like Cao Fei, Tracey Emin, Tilda Swinton, Marina Abramović, Hans Ulrich Obrist, and Roe Ethridge.
At the heart of these 300 pages brimming with contemporary art, Vol. 2 brings together icons pushing the boundaries of their respective disciplines: exclusive photographs by Cindy Sherman intersect with insights from Patti Smith, works by Linder Sterling, and essays dedicated to Klára Hosnedlová and the trailblazing pioneer Peggy Guggenheim.
To pick up this coveted issue, art and fashion enthusiasts can visit a selection of independent bookstores around the world. In Paris, the destination is on the Left Bank at 7L. Founded by Karl Lagerfeld during his tenure as the house’s artistic director, this iconic cultural institution - which regularly hosts prestigious book signings and talks - perfectly embodies the enduring bond between Chanel and literary creation.
This release is part of a broader editorial strategy. The house expanded its in-house publications this summer with the launch of Coco, a magazine dedicated to beauty and fragrance created in collaboration with media brand Chaos. Its debut issue, The Make-up Issue, featured 115 pages across eight collectible covers.
Going against the grain of the all-digital era, Chanel goes far beyond traditional advertising: the house asserts itself as a cultural taste maker, extending its influence through the refined tactile experience of premium paper. A sharp publication - as haute couture standards demand - yet resolutely accessible through its complimentary distribution, reaffirming the timeless prestige of print.
